She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John W. Riddle Jr; and two sisters, Mabel Foley and Claudine Edwards. She is survived by two sons, George Tillman Riddle and wife, Gay Nabors Riddle, and John W. Riddle III and wife, Carol Sue White Riddle; grandsons are John W. Riddle IV and James Tillman Riddle; granddaughters are Cris Noel Riddle Newberry; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Lyn Riddle, daughter of James Tillman and Mary Pruett Riddle of Franklin County, Va; special niece, Addie Lee Edwards Haynes and husband, Wilson Haynes, and their son the Rev. Kevin Haynes and wife, Beth of Stanley, Va; and many beloved nephews and nieces. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Mausoleum and entombment will follow with the Rev. Allen Hammond of Bluefield Union Mission presiding. The family will receive friends at 629 Pearl Street, Bluefield after the graveside service. She has requested that memorials be made to Bluefield Union Mission in preference to flowers. Mercer Funeral Home and Crematory of Bluefield is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville. T. Poff; and five brothers, Roy, Horace, Elmer, Clarence and Eric Poff, of Roanoke. on January 31, 1945.9

Ruth worked many years as a supervisor at Miller & Rhodes.Ruth loved her family dearly and is survived by her son, Lynn Townsend and wife, Barbara, of Richmond; granddaughters, Tiffany Talliaferro and husband, Foster, of Doylestown, Pa., Kimberly Townsend Stansell and husband, Scott, of Richmond, Va., and Sherry Allaire and husband, Tim, of Lewisville, N.C; grandson, Rhett Townsend of Manakin Sabot, Va; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashlyn, and Wyatt Talliaferro, Jacob, Sarah and James Stansell, William and Kya Allaire; sister, Edith Bova of Roanoke; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. on September 28, 2016.7

Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 3 p.m. Sunday, December 24, 1995, with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Cook, Jeremy C. Cook, Whitney P. Cook and Ashley R. Cook; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by the Rev. Russell Heinrich. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Harry Burns, Hencil Burns, Marvin Burns, Russell Peters, Tommy Glover, Jimmy Glover and William Lee Coffman. Whiting.2 Thelma Mae Poff was born on January 25, 1918 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,6,3,4 As of November 23, 1936,her married name was Ballard.7 She married Roger John Ballard on November 23, 1936 at Brooktondale, Tompkins Co., New York.2,7 Thelma Mae Poff died on October 10, 2004 at New York at age 86.2,6,3,8 She LANSING - Thelma Mae Poff Whiting, 86, formerly of Woodsedge Drive, Lansing, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2004. Born January 25, 1918 in Roanoke, VA, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Alice Radford Poff. Prior to her retirement, Thelma had been employed by Cornell University Media Services. She was a former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and in her later years was an active member of the Widow's Club. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her many friends. Thelma is survived by her daughters, Louise Ballard Osika (Dennis) of Lansing, Linda Whiting Hopkins (Joseph III) of Lansing; son, Robert L. (Margaret) Ballard of Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Roger Ballard; second husband, Richard L. Whiting; loving brother and sister, Herman Poff and Eva Poff Hurley; and a grandson, Jason Ballard. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Thelma's friends and caregivers at Lakeside Nursing Home and to the wonderful staff at Hospicare for taking such good care of her these past few months and weeks. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. on October 11, 2004.2
