Eloise was born in Roanoke County on November 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Walter and Lumis Dewease Manning. She married Samuel L. Lewis, a union of 26 years. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1968. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Millard and Marvin Manning. She and her husband, Sam, owned and operated the S&L Restaurant and the University Restaurant in Baltimore, Md. for over 20 years. After the passing of her husband, Eloise returned to Roanoke and became a fixture on the Market Square working at Thompson's selling vegetables and flowers. She was featured in the Roanoke Times for her work there. Eloise last worked for seven years at Kroger at Ridgewood Farms in Salem. Eloise was a member of the First Church of the Nazerene. She loved her cats, her flowers and caring for others. Eloise leaves to cherish her memory a loving sister, Mabel M. Lewis of Chesapeake, Va; her devoted and loving niece, Regina Wood and her husband, Mike, of Elliston; two devoted and loving nephews, Bob Manning, and his children Brandon and Brittney of Thaxton and Linville P. Manning and his wife, Tonya, of Hardy;, a special nephew, Ronnie Lewis of Calif; nieces and nephews, Laura Trout, Milan, Brian and Larry Manning; sister-in-law, Elsie Lancaster and her husband, Woody, of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Bobby Lewis and his wife, Ruth, of W. Va., and sister-in-law, Sara Boyd and her husband, Jim. Also surviving are special caring friends, Carl and Judy Shorter and her neighbor, Mary Pauley.The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Richfield Retirement Community, 4 West, Memory Care, for their loving care. on January 13, 2007.2

Lewis, who operated restaurants in Baltimore for more than twenty years, will be held at today. Mr. Lewis, who was 46, died Wednesday at the Maryland General Hospital after a short Illness. Born in Roanoke, Va., Mr. Lewis came to Baltimore in 1939. At the time of his death Mr. Lewis and his wife had operated the restaurant in the 800 block of North Eutaw street for about a year. Previously they had operated the University Restaurant in the University Hospital area for about twenty years. Mr. Lewis was very active in the Westminster Boys' Club on West Fayette street. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, the former Eloise Manning, to whom he had been married for 26 years. They lived at 4744 Wrenwood avenue. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Sarah Boyd, of Natural Bridge, Va., and a brother, Robert Lewis, of Elkins, W.Va. on April 27, 1968.7

He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Dreama Lam Manning, who loved him beyond words; his sister, Regina Leigh Manning; his brother, Robert Custer Manning; his niece, Brittney Lethia Colleen Manning; his nephew, Brandon Millard Melvin Manning and his wife, Brandi; his great-nephew, Conner Aaron Manning; Brandon and Brittney's mom, Cheryl Witt; his special Aunt, Gloria Dene Lancaster; his Uncle, Lewis Custer; his special cousin, Cary Custer; his step-children, Katie Alison Leslie, Joshua Timothy Pinkard and Mary Elizabeth Pinkard; his Godson, Caleb Christian Campbell and Goddaughter, Maria Ashley Ray; his special furry, four-legged family, Sampson, Elvis, Nemo and JB (James Bond), along with many other special family and friends. He is also survived by his steadfast Army and 82nd Airborne comrades, as well as his dedicated, supportive and selfless family in blue. Lin was one of the bravest, toughest, yet most loving man to his wife, friends, and family. Lin knew when he was 10 or younger that he wanted to serve his country. His mother could not pass an army navy store without having to stop. He also had a 10 year work history with Kroger who allowed his military leave to serve his country while working for them. Lin graduated in 1990 from Cave Spring High School where he wrestled on the varsity wrestling team. He went on to serve in the Army from 1990 until his honorable discharge in 1997, after serving as a Sergeant to D Company, 1st Battalion, 82D Aviation Regiment, 82D Airborne Division. Lin joined the Roanoke City Police Department in 1997, where he was a leader, instructor, Tactical Response Team member, cold case specialist and homicide detective from 2004 to 2014. Lin had a love for life, white water rafting, scuba diving, traveling, hiking, kayaking, to name a few. He also had a special love for his family, his family that is ever so close. He will be sadly missed and live in the hearts of many forever. on July 22, 2014.2

Leedy, of Randallstown; a brother, Clayton Poff, of Hampstead; a sister, Geneva Greene, of Westminster; grandchildren Ronald Thompson and Kimberly Leedy; great-grandchildren John and Bridget Thompson, Michael O'Halloran, and Ashley and Jimmy Lee Brady; and a great-great-grandchild, Aidan Brady. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie Carroll; and brothers Carlton and Hubert Poff; and a sister, Dorothy Poff. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville. on February 21, 2012.4

He was always proud of his Black Angus Beef cattle and Holstein dairy cows. He loved his John Deere tractors to do all his work. He was also a member of Greenmount United Methodist Church in Hampstead, Maryland. Most notably he was an amazing husband, great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was very important to him. He always enjoyed getting together during holidays and having crabs in the summer with his family. He was well respected in the community and a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children: Ronald Clayton Poff and wife Carolyn, Faye Ann Niner and Lou Ann Poff all of Hampstead, Maryland. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings: Evelyn Marie Poff, Hazel Ethel Poff, Carlton Hurt Poff, Geneva Juanita Poff, Hubert Poff, Dorothy Helen Poff, and son-in-law Robert L. Niner. Family will receive friends at the Eckhardt Funeral Home Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, Maryland 21102 on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, from 11 am to 1 pm. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the services and interment will be private. on August 31, 2020.5

A devoted Christian, Mr. Sowder was a life-long member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He spent much of his life compassionately helping others through his church, volunteerism and gifts. He was often recognized for his generous community service including a Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mr. Sowder was predeceased by his parents, Claude E. and Essie A. Sowder; brother, Paul C. Sowder; and his precious wife of 55 years, Nancy M. Sowder. He is survived by a sister, Marcena P. Walker; two sons, Stephen L. and David L. Sowder; daughters-in-law, Diane J. Sowder and Pamela C. Sowder; grandchildren, David Adam Sowder, Stephanie K. Sowder and Kaye Lynn Sowder; nephew, Ronald Phennicie and his wife, Evelyn. The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated and skillful care by the RMH Neurological Unit, Raleigh Court Healthcare, Emeritus Roanoke, and especially the ladies with Sitter Solutions. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, 2138 McVitty Road, Roanoke. Pastor Ed Woodard will officiate.      Robert Hartwell "Bob" Reed was born on January 14, 1930 at Airport, Roanoke Co., Virginia.2,5,3 He died on May 11, 2009 at Florida at age 79.5 He REED, ROBERT HARTWELL - Bob was born Jan. 14, 1930 at Airpoint, VA, in the family residence, to Nora Woodrum Reed and Raymond Reeves, who preceded him in death. He was the third of three sons. Older brother, Raymond Reeves Jr. also, preceded him in death. Middle brother, John Lewis Reed Sr. is retired, living in Deland, FL. The Reed family moved to Lakeland, FL in 1934. Here the sons grew up, attending school, joined the military, etc. In 1950, they all moved to Orlando, where father and sons all invested, and established Reed Motors Inc., doing business now as Reed Nissan. Bob served as com-pany representative to the C.F.A.D.A., and served on the auto shoe committee. He also served as representative to the Fla. Citrus Sports Assoc., of which the family business was a supporter for years. Bob was an avid sportsman, and especially liked participating in hunting, fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed watching sports on T.V. He was a longtime member of Dubsdred Golf Club. For the past 27 years, his life was enriched by Roberta Breene, his significant other. Since 2004 Bob had been officially retired. On May 11, 2009, he passed away at The Parks Rehab Center. He had been seriously ill and was hospitalized since Dec. 19, 2008. The family and his many friends will remember him for his kind, helpful and humorous way. He is survived by: significant other, Roberta Breene; brother, John Reed Sr; nephews, John Reed Jr., Raymond Reed, Mark Reed; great nephew Connor Reed and niece Bonnie Reed Altamus. A memorial service will be held Sat. May 16, 2009 at 4PM at Baldwin-Fairchild Lake Ivanhoe Chapel, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd, Orlando FL 32804. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to the charity of your choice, in his honor. on May 15, 2009.3
