Survivors include five sons, Arthur Melvin of Aster, Fla., Lacy Melvin of Newport News, Va., Tracy Melvin of Matoka, Bill Melvin of Peterstown, Va., and Chester Melvin of Princeton; seven daughters, Mrs. Robert (Zola) Crane, Mrs. Gussie (Emma) Burton, Mrs. Robert (Della) Gray, all of Matoaka, Mrs. Herbert (Rita) Price of Indian Spring, Nev., Mrs. C. E. (Mary Jane) Musser of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Leon (Betty) Peters of Lake City, Fla., and Mrs. Leroy (Frances) Sutton of Jacksonville, Fla; one sister, Mrs. John Underwood of Matoaka; one brother, Walter Goad of Hiawatha; 40 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Lashmeet Church of God with Revs. David Walls, Johnny Gray and Robert Walker officiating. Burial will be in Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield. on April 8, 1982.2

Other survivors include a sister Mrs. Nellie Taylor, of Johnson City, Tenn; a half-sister, Mrs. Georgia Snodgrass, and a step-sister, Mrs. Minnie Gibson, both of Sophia Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church at Sophia. The Rev. D. W. French, assisted by the Rev. Dewey Wilson, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hot Coal Cemetery at Sophia. on May 21, 1953.5

Ed was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Gleaners Sunday school class, and he also was a former little league baseball coach in Northfork. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW Post 3112. He formerly worked at Leatherwood Milk Company, Bluewell Public Service District, and was a retired coal miner and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Stella Miles Poff of the home; three sisters-in-law, Irene Poff of Bluewell, Minnie Poff of Bluewell, Doloros “Boots” Poff of Bluewell. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Reverend Stephen Rector and the Reverend D. Homer Stewart officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluewell United Methodist Church, Route 4 Box 541, Bluefield, WV 24701. on November 14, 2011.6

Mr. Walters was preceded in death by wife, Betty Walters; parents, Orix and Mary Walters, and sister, Anne Hale Petry. The funeral service for Mr. Walters will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 3 p.m. at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel. His daughters were by his side. He was born to Charles E. Beckwith and Genevieve Luck Beckwith on March 12th, 1934 in Roanoke, Virginia. A devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a devout Christian, and friend of the Rocky Mount community. He was known to always have the time to sit down and talk. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was known not only for his personal integrity and generosity but also for his love of nature. He was very fond of taking his children hiking and camping and teaching them about natural science. He was an amateur cartographer and an accomplished macrame artist. Charles was a telephone man throughout his working years and loved all things regarding communication technology. He held ham radio call sign K4BSF and kept a map in his ham shack of the contacts he had made worldwide. In addition to his professional accomplishments and love of nature, Charles was a pillar of strength, care and dedication to his family. He lovingly cared for his mother Genevieve, demonstrating a depth of compassion and duty to her, especially later in her life. His dedication extended to his wife Barbara, whom he supported and cherished throughout their life together. He was a key member of the Church of Christ congregations he shared communion with and was an able witness for Christ. He always ended prayers with asking protection for the little ones, in Jesus' name. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Grimes of Rocky Mount; daughter Susan Ghabra and her husband John Ghabra of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; son Andrew Beckwith of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; son Steven Beckwith and his wife Kim Orr of Osprey, Florida. Brother George Beckwith and his wife Betty Beckwith of Montvale; Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law Lynwood and Carol Dent of Lexington; Grandchildren Sara Beckwith-Bachand, Hannah Beckwith, Rachel Beckwith, Rae Beckwith, Amanda Grimes, Austin Grimes, Connor Ghabra, Ethan Ghabra, Samantha Ghabra and great-grandchildren Ian Bachand, Julia Augustyn, and Dallas Augustyn.
