He died of natural causes. Born May 20, 1922 in Penrose, WY to Ernest Randolph Werner and Anna Malena Johnson Werner, the oldest child with three brothers and three sisters. Kent married his sweetheart "Pretty Lady" Merlo Nadine Bohon on February 9, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Kent was an independent businessman in sales and promotions most of his life and enjoyed his business ventures. Kent was an active member of the LDS Church, having served a fulltime mission to the East Central States. A High Priest in the Mountain View 2nd Ward, he enjoyed his many opportunities to serve. Always missionary minded, his Plan of Salvation Chart was a standard missionary tool for all he met or associated with. Kent also served his country during World War II in the army field artillery. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He is survived by his loving wife, his children, Brenda (Phil) Maloy, Bunny (Leland) Myers, Mark (Carin) Werner, Marsha (Chad) Maughan, and Jay (Leslie) Werner; 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with two buns in the oven. Also survived by his special sister, Sally (Lanel) Bachman and brothers, Richard and Edward Werner. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Inez and Ernaleen and one brother, Frank. The family wishes to give special thanks for the loving care received at Wasatch Rehabilitation and Care Source Hospice.      Glenn Arthur Black Glenn Arthur Black joined the Lord on 30 September 2009, leaving one set of loving earthly arms to the great glory of being in the presence of God's all encompassing love. Go in peace and love, Dear Glenn. We love you here. He was born 11 October 1926 in Park City, Utah, the son of Hazel Black Wolford Gardner and Lloyd Black. Glenn served in the United States Navy in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II. He has spent the last five years in Orcutt and would frequently ride his scooter to the Orcutt Library, Golden Donut or Albertsons. His sense of humor and caring brought great joy to many and will be dearly missed by all. Glenn is survived by his devoted and loving wife Maureen Black. They married in June 1985 and he immediately became step-father to Adam and Scott McLean. Glenn helped mold their lives through the adolescent years and into young adult life. Scott, Denise, his wife, and their 3 children, Erica, Peter and Mark were a daily part of Glenn's. The Glenn-Mark bond was unique in their unconditional respect and love for each other. God blessed Glenn during these times as he grew in wisdom and love. Adam from Ponca, Nebraska, made surprise day visits whenever he had free time, often bringing his children Megan, Russell, and Andrew. Glenn has five biological children with his first wife Katheryn Boeman. In the summer of 2007, Maureen and Glenn had the privilege of returning to Logan Utah for a family reunion with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from first marriage. His son, Mike Black and his wife Karla from Rigby Idaho; their grandchildren Emmylou Court, Max and Crystyna and great grandchild Katelyn Davis. His daughter Pam Stevens from Mesa Arizona and grandchildren Jeff, Greg, Todd and Janae. His son Steve Black and his wife Ruth from Logan Utah and their children Marci Clement, Melanie Hanson, Jake Black, Rebecca Bowden, Sarah, Benjamin and Emily Black. His daughter Tara Johnson and her husband Manuel from Logan Utah and their children Scott, Breanna and Bridger Johnson. His son Jon Black from Gillette Wyoming. Additionally, Glenn had fifteen great grandchildren. Though miles may separate our families, God's love binds us all. A memorial service will be held at the Orcutt Presbyterian Church on 10 October at 1:00 PM.      Elsie Mae Sowder Elsie M. Sowder, 97, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. She was a longtime member of Belmont Baptist Church and the Lerners Sunday School Class. She was a 1944 graduate, at the age of 16, of Jefferson Senior High School and began her career with the Norfolk and Western Railroad. After four years she joined the First National Exchange Bank which later became Dominion Bank and retired with 38 years of service. She enjoyed composing poetry and music. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Gold Lee and Selina Hall Sowder and a sister, Ruby A. Sowder. She is survived by a number of cousins. Elsie will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery.⁴ She was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ She was born on July 7, 1927 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁷ She died on August 6, 2024 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 97.⁴

     Elsie Mae King Elsie Mae Surface, 92, of Salem, VA passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born May 9, 1925 in Salem, VA a daughter of the late Robert and Thelma Wade King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul I. Surface; and brothers, Clarence and Avon King. Mrs. Surface retired from Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital with over 25 years of service. She loved crafting, crocheting, yard work and bird watching. She also loved music and taught herself how to play the piano. After retirement she and her husband Paul loved to travel and camp with the many friends they made during their travels.      Michael Floyd "Mike" McGuigan Sr. Michael Floyd McGuigan Sr., Oct 5, 1940 - Mar 31, 2021. On March 31, 2021 Michael "Mike" McGuigan passed from this world in the peace and comfort of his Charlotte Hall home, his last days being spent surrounded by his family and friends. Mike was born in 1940 to Michael "Floyd" McGuigan and Clara Jameson McGuigan of Waldorf where he lived for the vast majority of his life. He attended La Plata High School and was a member of the very first La Plata High School football team playing the position of tackle. His unique sense of humor earned him the title of class clown and his gift of making people laugh, especially at moments when it was needed the most, would remain with him for the rest of his life. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent the next four years deployed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the military Mike returned home. He was hired by the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington D.C. beginning his career as a police officer which spanned the next 27 years. Often described as a "Cop's Cop", Mike's assignments included uniformed street patrol, Civil Disturbance Unit and supervisor. Respectfully referred to by his coworkers as "Pops", Mike's career and stories of police work sparked the interest of both of his sons who later followed in his footsteps with careers in law enforcement of their own. His retirement from the MPD in 1990 was short lived as he returned to a similar line of work taking a position employed by the Mellon family. As a member of their private security force, Mike provided protection for their various assets and firearms training for the other members of the security team over the next 22 years. After 49 years in law enforcement and protective service, Mike decided to retire once and for all to enjoy his days doing what he preferred most, spending time at home with his family and ensuring he tried to catch every crab in the river possible. Although he gave away almost every one he caught to his family and neighbors, this was one of his peaceful enjoyments. His personal reward was the thanks from the person receiving a free dozen jumbo crabs, already cooked and seasoned. Known by many nicknames such as "Pops", "Big Mike", and his favorite, which was quickly taught to each grandchild, "Feather Merchant", Mike was blessed to have his family living close to his home and no more than an few hours away, ensuring every holiday and special occasion would be well attended and filled with gag gifts, bad jokes and creative songs/poems which were humorous, but often inappropriate for some audiences. Mike can be best described as a man who would always look out for his neighbors, friends and most importantly…his family. No matter what the problem, Mike was the strong, caring person who everyone could depend on to be there to help in whatever way possible. His love, guidance and family strength will be missed, yet treasured in the memories of his loved ones. Mike is survived by Joyce, his beloved wife of 56 years, his children Linda Greenawalt (Ivan), Michael McGuigan Jr. (Susan), John McGuigan (Caren) his grandchildren Perry Greenawalt (Lauren), Jessica Kramer (Joey), Alana, Kristen, Michael and Mikayla McGuigan and great-grandchildren William and Ava Greenawalt.      Alice Josephine "Jocie" Heath was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ Her Social Security Number was 226-01-2254.³ She was born on January 9, 1908 at Bristol, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.^3,2 She married Emory Christian Gearheart, son of Elias Morgan Gearheart and Della Vera Layman, on December 18, 1923 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,2 As of December 18, 1923,her married name was Gearheart.² Alice Josephine "Jocie" Heath died on July 20, 1996 at Virginia at age 88.^1,3 She GEARHEART, Alice Josephine, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 20, 1996. She was the widow of Emory C. Gearheart. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Christine S. and James M. Tabor of Roanoke; a grandson and wife, Tommy and Cheryl Snead of Callaway; a granddaughter and husband, Tondra and Douglas Blevins of Matthews, N.C; great-grandchildren, Stacy and Alex Snead, Emily Perez, and Nikki and Kory Blevins; a sister, Charlie Kesler, and a brother, Jack Heath, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, July 22, 1996, with the Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. on July 21, 1996.¹
