She was a homemaker throughout her life and had worked as a dispatcher for a number of years for the National Security Administration. She was Treasurer of the West Severna Park Community Association. Betty had a great love of dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. She is survived by her son Timothy Stanley “Tim” Shields of Severna Park, Maryland; a granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Shields of Severna Park; a brother in law, Bobby Oakes of Florida; three nieces and three nephews; and special dog companion Priscilla. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.6 She was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia.6 She and George Stanley Shields Jr. were divorced.9 Betty Jane Vest was born on May 1, 1936 at Roanoke, Virginia.6 As of June 3, 1961,her married name was Shields.4 She married George Stanley Shields Jr. on June 3, 1961 at Roanoke, Virginia.4 Betty Jane Vest died on January 18, 2019 at Edgewater, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, at age 82.6
