Leland grew up in Salem and worked at Gardner Denver, and later retired from Graham White Machine Shop in Salem, where he still worked two days a week until recently. Since retirement, his hobby has been working to restore his 1969 Ford Pickup. Leland enjoyed his church family at Southview United Methodist Church, and his family wants to thank all of them for the love and support they have given during his battle with cancer. In addition to his church family, the family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Mark Currie and the nurses at the Infusion Center for their many acts of kindness and compassion. Leland was a quiet and lovable person who was well respected by his family and friends. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on October 24, 2012.⁴

He was a retired Doctor of Music at Radford University. Surviving are his wife Gerry C.      Vera Conner FLOYD - Vera Conner Shank, 52, of Floyd, formerly of Servern, Md., died Sunday in a Shawsville nursing home. She was the wife of Alvin Shank. Also surviving are two sons, James E. Shank, Crownsville, Md; Thomas M. Shank, Laurel, Md; three sisters, Mrs. Carson Light, Roanoke; Mrs. Doy Light, Pilot; Mrs. Garland Aldridge, Check; a brother, Arvel Conner, Shawsville. The funeral will be Tuesday a 2 p.m. at the Piedmont Holiness Church, near Shawsville, with burial in the church cemetery.⁵ She was buried at Piedmont Cemetery, Rt. 11 to Shawsville, turn at nursing home, Rt. 637, about 8 miles on the left, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^1,2,5,6,7 She was born on January 10, 1919 at Otey, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^9,2,3 She married William Alvin Shanks, son of Doctor McKinley "Dock" Shanks Sr. and Ethel E.      Roger Wayne Light Roger Wayne Light, 62, of Salem, VA passed away Friday, June 14, 2024. He was born to parents James Wiley Light and the late Loretta Kesler Light in Roanoke, VA on Friday, March 9, 1962. Roger was a former Salem High School football player and a passionate sports fan. Some of his favorite teams included the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals, Washington Nationals, and the Hershey Bears. However, he strongly disliked the Dallas Cowboys and The Pittsburgh Penguins. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Allie Kesler, William & Hazel Light, and brother Richard Light. Those left to cherish Roger’s memory include his son, Dr. Travis Light; brother, Randall Light; girlfriend, Cathy Lumpkin and best friend Norman Russell.³ He was born on March 9, 1962 at Roanoke, Virginia.³ He married Elizabeth A.
