Stanley Bea "Bea-Bea" Lawrence died on May 8, 2015 at Virginia at age 92.5 She Stanley "Bea-Bea" Lawrence Harmon, 92, passed from this world peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and in the comfort of her home in Riner. She was formerly a resident of the Poages Mill area of Roanoke County from 1952 to 2011. Stanley Bea was born in Check August 7, 1922. She was married to the love of her life, Fred Harmon, February 16, 1945, in Roanoke, and truly lived the words of her wedding vows from Ruth 1: 16-17. She was baptized in Brush Creek, becoming a member of Havens Chapel United Methodist Church at age 12. She later became a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church in Roanoke. She was a member of the Williamson Road Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She loved taking ceramic classes through the church, and made beautiful ceramics for family and friends, which will be forever cherished. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her children when they were young, including prom dresses for her daughters. She enjoyed quilting and canning vegetables from the garden. She was a humble, kind, hardworking, loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother ("Bea-Bea") who always put her family first. She was a shining star who will be forever loved, deeply missed and always remembered by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Earl and Audrey Bea Carr Lawrence; daughter, Fredrica Dawn Harmon Roberts; brother, Clay Earl Lawrence; and sister, Marie June James. She is survived by her deeply devoted and loving husband of over 70 years, Frederick Maurice Harmon, of Riner; daughter and son-in-law, Stephana (Stacy) Maureen Harmon Barton and Hubert C. Barton of Riner; son, Chetley Bea Harmon of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Carole Roberts (Will) Carvajal of Forest, Emily Roberts (Keith) Pyle of Forest, Travis Barton of Derwood, Md., and Matthew Barton (Jennifer Ingles) of Charlotte, N.C; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Aidan Carvajal of Forest, Ericka and Nathan Pyle of Forest, and Isaac and Sophia Barton of Charlotte, N.C; sisters, Diana Lawrence Wimmer of Check, and Jarrette (Pinky) Lawrence Jinnett of Knoxville, Tenn; brother-in-law, James (Hilda) Harmon of Floyd; and special nephews and nieces, Lyle Wimmer, Rene' Wimmer, Kerry Clay Lawrence, Mary Frances Huff, Mildred Weddle, Joe Caldwell, Sandra Davis, Sunny Popp, Jamie Harmon, Cappy Spangler, Jolee Crawford, Alan Harman, Jeannette Wade, Joan Janney, and Patty St. Johns. Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Gardner Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at Havens Chapel United Methodist Church in Check 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, officiated by the Rev. Fred Austin and the Rev. Darren Landon. He loved feeding and watching the birds, and recognized each bird by its song. He will be remembered by many who enjoyed rock hopping with him on Back Creek. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 on February 14, 1942. He was commissioned on the U.S.S. Alabama August 16, 1942 and completed Navy Training Class for Boatswain's Mate Second Class on July 18, 1944. He received his honorable discharge on October 24, 1945. He worked for Shepherds's Auto Supply in Roanoke, and later the General Electric Company in Salem from 1956–1985, where for many years he ran the GE employee store.He is preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Stanley Bea Lawrence Harmon, daughter, Fredrica Harmon Roberts, parents, Edgar Allen and Mary Slusher Harmon, brothers, Norman Harmon, Marvin Harmon and Richard Harmon, sisters, Pauline Weeks, Senora Caldwell Keith, and Lucille Lee, and nephew, Phil Weeks.
