     Gene Martin Smith Gene Martin Smith, 87 of Craig County, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019. He made his home in the Sinking Creek Valley. Gene retired in 1988 from General Electric with 32 years of service. He then worked for the U.S. Forest Service and also with the Dept. of Forestry. Gene was a member of Level Green Christian Church for over 50 years, where he served as Deacon and Trustee. A former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 429, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. An avid bear hunter for over 70 years, inducted into the Virginia Bear Hunter’s Hall of Fame, where he was a life member. He loved spending time with Linda, farming, gardening, and dancing. He also loved working with his sons farming and hunting. He especially enjoyed every minute with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud to have seen his 4 grandchildren married. Born in Covington, he graduated from Troutville High School in 1950. He spent a lot of time helping his aunt and uncle Bay and Jesse Taylor farm in Paint Bank. Preceded in death by son, Timothy Martin Smith; parents, Bryan and Viola Taylor Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Irene Smith; sister, Geraldine S. Farrier; great-nephew, B.J. Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Linda Garman Smith; sons and wives, Benji and Dee Dee Smith and Richard and Joy Smith; grandchildren and spouses, Stacy and Dan Brock, Justin and Kristen Smith, Dustin and Alisha Smith, Shawn and Cate Smith; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Paul and Luke Brock, Willow Karnes, Raelynn Smith; brother-in-laws, “Billy Lewis” Farrier, and Tony and Shirley Garman; nephews and spouses, Denny and Janice Smith, Eddie B. and Vickie Smith, Ken and Kathy Smith, Lewis and Cindy Farrier; nieces and spouses, Mitzi and David Webster, Gail Garman and Bob Wright; great-nieces and newphews, and spouses, Danielle and Noel Woodard, Mark Smith, Ethan Webster, Carly Webster, and Justin Sarver; many cousins, Magnum Hunt Club, his neighbors, and his fellow church members.      Clifton Allen Elmore On October 27, 2014, Clifton Allen Elmore journeyed home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Amanda. Allen was born on November 5, 1937 in Craig County, Virginia, the first son of Clifton and Esther Elmore. Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A man of unshakable faith and generous spirit, he exemplified what it means to live a selfless life rooted in love, loyalty, and service to others. A mason, a Shriner, a community volunteer and a faithful member of his church family, Allen was loved by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Beitra Holmes and husband, Craig, Katie Elmore and partner, Jeff Howard, Robert Elmore and wife, Mary; his six grandchildren: Ben Holmes and wife, Jen, Meagan Holmes, Nathaniel Holmes, Sarah Gobble, Anna Elmore, and Will Elmore. He also leaves behind a host of friends and relatives. A Service to Celebrate Allen’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at First Christian Church, 712 Front Avenue, Salem, Virginia. Amanda Marie "Mandy" Reynolds died on February 18, 2014 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 74.3,4,5 She In the small hours of the morning on February 18, 2014, God sent his angels to take our beloved Amanda Marie Reynolds Elmore home. Mandy was born in Craig County on June 20, 1939, the youngest daughter of Rossie and Charles Reynolds. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Allen, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years. Cherishing her memory with thankful hearts are her three children: Deitra Holmes and son-in-law Craig, Katie Elmore and partner Jeff Howard, Robert Elmore and daughter-in-law, Mary. She adored her six grandchildren: Ben Holmes and his wife Jen, Meagan Holmes, Nathaniel Holmes, Sarah Gobble, Anna Elmore, and Will Elmore. Mandy was pre-deceased by siblings, Meredith Reynolds, Andrew Reynolds, Robert Reynolds, Charles Reynolds, and Betty Sue Hall. She is survived by her sister, Florene Mederios and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many dear friends and her beloved church family, who know her for her generous heart and loving spirit. Mandy spent her lifetime caring for others. She graduated from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing and practiced as an RN for over 50 years. She was a faithful volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Family Promise, and her church. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on March 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Salem.      Tony Clarke Garman Tony Garman, Saturday, October 15th, 1938 - Thursday, March 30th, 2023. Tony Clarke Garman, 84, of Botetourt County, departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Tony was born in the Sinking Creek Valley of Craig County. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Sergeant at time of discharge. He was a machinist who valued a strong work ethic and retired as a mold maker from Plastics One. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard and Claudine Garman; his brother-in-law, Gene Smith; and nephew, Timothy Smith. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Keffer Garman; his daughters, Mitzi Webster and her husband David of Blue Ridge, VA and Gail Garman and her husband Robert Wright of Buchanan, VA; two grandchildren, Carly Webster and Ethan Webster of Blue Ridge, VA; sister, Linda Smith of New Castle, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a member of Bonsack United Methodist Church. Tony was a quiet person and loved his family. He also enjoyed nature, hunting, and gardening. Tony was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors with projects and he had the ability to fix anything. In addition to helping those he knew, he was passionate about helping others by donating blood at the Red Cross.
