He is survived by his wife, Donnalie Markwood Hope; a daughter Dawn Lorraine Hope of Roanoke, Va; stepdaughter, Tina Liong of Stephens City, Va; grandson, Scott Kaylor Trichel of Roanoke; and step-grandson, Ryan Liong of Stephens City. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Memorials may be made to Mount Storm Volunteer Fire Co., c/o Kenneth Wolfe, Mount Storm, WV 26739. on November 10, 2004.5

Born Oct. 7, 1918, at Boomer, he was the son of the late Thurmond and Ella Henderson Vandall. He also was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 wonderful years, June Marie Chapman Vandall; his devoted granddaughter, Jillian DiVita; and his brother, T.R. Vandall. Preston grew up in Mahan, and graduated from Kinston High School in 1937. He married his high school sweetheart, June, on Oct. 15, 1940, and enjoyed 66 wonderful years until her death on Dec. 23, 2006. Both were saved in 1941 at the Community Church in Mahan and lived the rest of their life raising four children and serving the Lord in many ways. He was a member of the Handley Church of the Nazarene where he taught Sunday school. Currently he was a member of the Belle Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Vandall was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and he was owner and operator of Fayette Dental Lab in Montgomery until his retirement. Surviving: daughters, Cheryl Felman and her husband in South Bend, Ind., Pamela Gardner of Shrewsbury and Penny DiVita and her husband, James, of Shrewsbury; sons, Raymond P. "Van" Vandall Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Southern Pines, N.C; brother, Billy Joe Vandall of Ravenswood; sister, Ruby Scofield and her husband, Loyd, of Bedford, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 8 grandchildrren. Service was Jan. 25 at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Pastor Mark Green and Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Entombment followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow. Joe Richard Vandall Sr. Joe Richard Vandall, Sr., 90, of Ravenswood passed away December 18, 2015 at his home following a long illness. He was born June 22, 1925 in Boomer, WV, a son of the late Thurmon and Ella Henderson Vandall. He attended Kingston High School until November of his senior year when he was drafted into the Army Air Corp and went on to serve as an air traffic controller during the Pacific Theatre of World War II, including Iwo Jima. He later retired from Kaiser Aluminum where he was a security officer. He was a founding member of the Millsite Baptist Church where he also served as treasurer. Survivors include sons Joe Richard Vandall Jr. of Ravenswood and Jeffrey Wayne Vandall (Laura) of Charleston; daughters Linda Dodson (Jim) of Ravenswood, Rebecca McComas (Garry) of Charleston, Judy Hickman (Rick) of Ravenswood, and Deborah Vandall of Ravenswood; sister Ruby Schofield (Lloyd) of Cleveland, OH; he is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lucille "Tunie" Pannell Vandall and brothers Preston and T.R. Vandall. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Millsite Baptist Church, Cottageville, with Pastor Mike Walker officiating. The service will also be broadcast on the church website. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Monday, December 21 at the church. There will also be visitation Tuesday from noon until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Jackson County Memory Gardens with military rites performed by the Jackson County Honor Guard.3 He was buried at Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, Jackson Co., West Virginia.3 He was born on June 22, 1925 at Boomer, Fayette Co., West Virginia.3,4 He married Lucille Louise "Tunie" Pannell circa 1947.3,5 Joe Richard Vandall Sr. died on December 18, 2015 at Ravenswood, Jackson Co., West Virginia, at age 90.3
