Alice Thalia Smith married Burnett Marvell Linkous in 1989.6,4 As of 1989,her married name was Linkous. Alice Thalia Smith died on March 6, 2019 at Virginia at age 92.4 She Thalia Conner Linkous, 92, left peacefully to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Her first husband, James Alton Conner, and her second husband, Burnett Marvell Linkous predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Michael Conner and his wife, Rose; her daughter, Angela Conner; her grandson, Dallis Conner and his fiance, Taylor; step-granddaughter, Emma Sporing and her husband, Lawrence; and step-grandsons, Jacob Cutler Willis and Thomas Willis. She is also survived by a special stepson, Tim Linkous, and his wife, Faye; step-grandsons, Andrew Linkous, and his wife, Tiffany; and Corey Linkous; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Thalia lived her entire life in Alleghany Springs (Shawsville). She was the oldest member of Sowders Chapel Baptist Church. She will be remembered by everyone as a woman who worked hard all her life. She mowed her acre-plus yard with a push mower and always tried to beat her best time. She did all her chores at breakneck speed. She was also a lot of fun, and we may miss that most. She had a quick wit, which was sometimes biting, but only in the most good-natured and hilarious way. We will miss the way her eyes grew large when she was telling a tall tale. A graveside service will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Va. The family would like to offer special thanks to the folks at Medi Hospice, in particular Marcia Haralson and Jamie Thompson, and special gratitude to Thalia's neighbors, Ila Jean Poff and Doug Poff for watching over her in her later years, and for helping us so much in the last two. on March 9, 2019.4

George Walters

M, b. circa 1739, d. before 1816
George Walters Oath of Allegiance We whose names are hereunto subscribed do swear or affirm that we renounce and refuse all allegiance to George third King of Great Britain, his heirs successors and that, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Commonwealth of Virginia as a free and independent State and that I will not at any time do or Cause to be done any matter or thing that will be make known to some one Justice of the Peace for the said State all treasons or traitorous Conspiracies which I now or hereafter shall know to be formed against this or any of the United States of America. The list of persons, who were administered the Oath of Allegiance, in Montgomery Co., by John Montgomery, in 1777 include George Walters. The records of the Montgomery Co. Militia Court Martial, April, 1778. Fined two months pay for refusing to march out to protect the county frontier, taken into custody and treated as a deserter, the list includes George Walters 1780 - August "Following the confessions, Montgomery and Botetourt Counties proceeded to bring these persons to trial for misbehavior and treason against the State. Those who were tried were:" On this list was George Walters. The action taken by the court varied from posting bond to "gaol" in Augusta to enlisting in the Continental Army, to receiving thirty-nine lashes. Those who enlisted included George Walters, who was charged with being a soldier in the British service, who was "a poor and ignorant man". He agreed to enlist for 18 months from the time of arrival at General Washington's Camp. 1780 - Sept. "The following Montgomery County soldiers of the Revolutionary War enlisted in Chesterfield Co., Virginia. The register of troops who enlisted since Sept. 1, 1780, is found in the Size Roll of Troops, or the so-called Chesterfield Register. The names of the men who were from Montgomery Co., Virginia at the time of their enlistment, have been selected from complete records. The register includes birth place, residence, height, color of hair, eyes and complexion, as well as occupation, age and date of enlistment (Sept. 11, 1780, unless otherwise stated), and length of service (one year six months unless otherwise stated)." In this list of names of the men from Montgomery County is the following: 1780 Page 50 George Walter - age 41 - 5' 6 1/2" - planter - born Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - gray hair - gray eyes - dark complexion. Also, it seems George Walters may have married a second time. Tradition says that Christina Crewey wouldn't let him come back home because of his Tory activities. They may have been divorced. In 1791 George Walters married Ann Hank/Hanky, a widow. George Walters was the surety for the marriage of Hannah Hanky and Henry Lybrook in 1796. Henry Lybrook is also listed on the Chesterfield Register, born in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. George Walters gave his consent for his step-daughter, Mary Hanky to marry Jacob Snidow in 1798. In 1813, Jacob Snidow, overseer of the poor, was paid $30.00 for keeping George Walters for one year.1 He married Christina Crewey. George Walters was born circa 1739 at Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania.2 He died before 1816.3
