Conner, 63, of Bent Mountain, passed away suddenly on Sunday morning, February 12, 2006 at his residence. He was an employee of John W. Hancock, Jr. with 33 years of service. He was a member and Deacon at Mount Union Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Cora Conner; and a brother, Lester Conner. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Betty Thompson Conner; sons, Eddie Conner and fiancée, Terri Little, David Conner and wife, Pamela; grandchildren, Rodger Conner, Amanda Conner, Tyler Chumbley and Julie Chumbley; sister, JoAnn Hartman and brother-in-law, Larry Hartman. Services will be at Mount Union Church of the Brethren, Bent Mountain at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2006. The Rev. Greg Fleshman and the Rev. Gary Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Union Church of the Brethren or Bent Mountain Vol. Fire Department. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 989-3131.

He was a member of the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Conner of Salem; two sons and their wives, Billy and Gracie Conner of Salem, William (Willie) and Sarah Connor of Roanoke; four daughters and their husbands, Betty and David Greene of Check, Mary and Kenneth Beckner of Boutetourt, Carolyn and Donald Atkins of Roanoke and Linda and Jimmy Jefferson of Shawsville; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Wimmer of Roanoke; and one brother, Garland Conner of Montgomery County. Funeral services will be Saturday 2 p.m. December 6, 2003 at the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. James Worline officiating. Graveside Military rites will be at the Head of the River Church Cemetery by the Floyd VFW Post #7854 and the American Legion Post #127. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd Rescue Squad, Floyd, Va. 24091. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd. on December 5, 2003.6
