He is preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 71 years, Frances M. Barnett and a brother, Robert O. "Bee" Barnett Sr. He was born in Princeton, W.Va. to the late Thomas and Anne C. Barnett. Ralph was a devoted and active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church for 58 years. He graduated from the first class of Andrew Lewis High School in 1935 and was a retired superintendant at Valley Roofing Co. Surviving are his daughter, Suzanne; nephew, Robert O. Barnett Jr; sisters-in-law, Trudy Barnett Good, Helen Deck, Rita Richardson, Bertie Selvey and Nancy F. Martin; brother-in-law, Bill Selvey; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Rita, Gene and Cindy, who stuck with him until the end. The family would like to give a special thank you to Loretta Greenway, who cared for Ralph over two years, and Rosa Lee Hannabass. The family would like to also thank the Good Samaritan Hospice for all their care and the volunteers also, Michelle and Marie. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grandin Court Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grandin Court Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Meadows and the Rev. Charles Krause officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. on July 30, 2012.4

She is survived by her loving husband, William (Bill) Selvey; son, Jonathan Staples; daughter, Katie Staples Sullivan; sisters, Rita Richardson, Helen Deck and Gertrude Good, of Roanoke, Va; eight grandchildren, numerous extended families. Bertie spent her life supporting her community and opening her home to thousands of family, friends, and wayward travelers. The memorial service will be on Sunday, September 18, at 2 p.m., at Unity of Bon Air, 923 Buford Road, Richmond, Va. 23235, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to one of Bertie's favorite charities, Byrd Theater, Virginia Historical Society, Unity of Bon Air, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University or James Madison University. on September 11, 2016.7
