Frances Norma Jean Martin Norma Jean Martin Conner, 75 of Copper Hill, went home peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, to be with her Savior and rejoice in His presence. She attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed volunteering with the Friends and Food program each month feeding those in need in our community. More recently, she had attended Victory Restoration Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship and teachings of Christ. Norma loved the Lord with her heart, mind and soul. She enjoyed attending church and when the pandemic hit, continued to attend virtually and would often listen to multiple sermons on Sundays. She worked in retail for many years at Hill's Department Store, making many friends along the way. She is now rejoicing to be reunited with those who've gone before her including her mom and dad, Frances and Elvin Martin; and a brother, Frank E. Martin. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edwin Conner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Bobby Huff of Floyd, and Teresa and Andy Martin of Check; four grandchildren, Courtney Cox and her husband, Zach, Robert Huff and his wife, Bridget, Conner Martin, and Kimberly Martin; great grandson, Gavin Cox; two brothers, Paul Martin of Floyd, and Glenwood Martin and his wife, Donna, of Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews. Norma was a person who liked to see the good in people, she would help whenever you needed it. She adored her grandkids and great-grandson. She made sure to be active in their lives and share her abundant love with each one. Her daughters and grandkids were her pride and joy. Interment followed in Jacksonville Cemetery.5 She was buried at Jacksonville Burial Ground, Rt. 8, 0.25 miles south of Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.5,8 She was born on December 31, 1946 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,4 She married Edwin Clark Conner, son of Maurice Harvey Conner and Eva Irene Epperly, on February 16, 1963 at Franklin Co., Virginia.1,7,9,3,5 As of February 16, 1963,her married name was Conner. John Earl Hubbard Mr. John Earl Hubbard, age 85, of Stuart, Va., passed away on September 4, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born in Patrick County, Va., on February 5, 1935, to the late Elijah Hubbard and Clemmie Pendleton Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Brandi Marie Hubbard; two brothers: Eldon Hubbard and Harold Hubbard; and one sister, Rachel Pendleton. Mr. Hubbard was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Earl loved everyone and was willing to help anyone he could. Mr. Hubbard is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Helen Conner Hubbard; two sons: Teddy Hubbard and Rickey Hubbard, both of Stuart; seven grandchildren; one sister, Annette Rorrer of Stuart; a special caregiver, Leanna Tatum of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hubbard will be held at Sycamore Baptist Church. James Wilson Turner James Wilson Turner, 77 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was born on May 8, 1947 to Hampton Jeff Turner, Sr. & Arlene Radford Turner, whom precede him in death. He married the love of his life, Marcia, and together they raised two outgoing, strong-willed daughters. They had their hands full with three adventurous grandchildren, whom he loved very much. James’ favorite place was his beloved summer cabin. He worked for Hercules for several years before starting his own trucking company, James Turner Trucking, where he hauled for many companies for approximately 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marcia Conner Turner; daughters, Angie Turman and Monica Turner; grandchildren, Haley Turman, Briana Turman, and Parker Turman; brother, Hampton “Junior” Jeff Turner, Jr; special cousin, Tyler Turner; and special friends, Tom Maynor, and Brian Turman. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery near Floyd, Va. Mrs. Conner died Tuesday in a hospital at Bridgeport, Conn. Mrs. Conner was born August 22, 1893, in Floyd County Virginia, a daughter of P. E and Dealiah Walters Austin. Her husband, the late Fayette Conner, preceded her in death on June 9, 1954. She was preceded in death also by her parents, a brother and two sisters. Surviving are five sons and a daughter: Ervin Conner, McComas, Alfred of Bud, Ralph serving with the U.S. Navy, Mrs. Garnet Danserebi, Leonard and Hubert Conner, all of Bridgeport, Conn; eight grandchildren; four brothers; Tom Austin, Tralee, Will, of McComas, John, of Bent Mountain, Va., and George Austin of Terrys Fork, Va ; and five sisters: Mrs. J. H. Smith and Mrs. Dock Conner of Princeton, Mrs. Ray Smith and Mrs. Riley Board, of Roanoke, Va. and Mrs. Roscoe Poff of Salem, Va. on November 4, 1955.3

Kirby and Myrtle I Jernell, both of Roanoke, and Ruby M. Overstreet of Vinton, Va; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. on November 16, 1988.5
