He was a longtime member of Penn Forest Christian Church, a retired truck driver, and had a great love for Bluegrass and Gospel Music. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Wilson; stepmother, Otis Wilson; brothers, Lewis Wilson and Thomas Miller; sister, Frances Todd; and granddaughter, Shannon Perkins. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Ruby H. Wilson; two sons and five daughters, Barry Perkins (Jenny), Regina Schaaff (Ronnie Reynolds), Robert Perkins, Donna Cannaday (Dean), Melanie Hensley, Patricia Repass, and Melinda Reynard (Doug); three sisters, Hazel Thierry, Jean Brookman, and Eloise Greene (Leonard); 10 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on January 11, 2013.3

D. and Cindy Williams, Gary and Jean Williams, Eddie and Elaine Williams and Randy and Lisa Williams; and daughter and spouse, Rowena and Terry Epperly. Other survivors include a brother, R. B. and Ruth Poff; a sister, Stella Wertz; 14 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and son-in-law, Wendell Cox. Special thanks to her caregivers, Sheila Hagy and Sandra Wright. We would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their care, especially Caroline Bain, Lynette Lawrence and Dianne Henry Leggette. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. on July 2, 2006.6

Prior to Scott Insurance, she worked for Bedford Mututal Insurance Co. and Farm Bureau Insurance Co. She was a member of the Insurance Women's Association and the Lynchburg Claims Association. She served in various capacities at Thaxton Baptist Church over the years. A great portion of her service was dedicated to Youth Choir Director, Adult Choir Member and, most recently as a deacon. She was proud of her church and her church family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Terry Dale Slusher; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Toby Thompson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Becky Grant, Brent and Danna Grant; seven wonderful grandchildren, Joy Thompson, Will Grant, Staci Thompson, Tucker Grant, Bryce Grant, Casey Grant and Skye Grant. She is also survived by one brother, Rayford (Shirley) Harris and four sisters, Phyllis (Bailey) Waller, Donna (Jim) Carr, Bonnie Dagenhart, and Vickie (Danny) Toms, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Special family includes a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Kay Slusher; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gail and Roger Tankersly. She will also be sadly missed by some very special and kind friends at Scott Insurance Agency. A celebration of her life will be held at Thaxton Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, with the Rev. Dr. Eldridge Cullum and the Rev. Johnny Gupton officiating. Interment will follow in the Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery (formerly Wolf Head Cemetery). on June 16, 2007.4

Barbara Guy Poff Barbara Poff Stump, 81, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on November 4, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Don Harrison assisted by the Rev. Dean Taylor. Following the service, a private interment of ashes of will be held in the Columbarium Garden, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall, where the family will greet friends and relatives. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Guy William and Ella Boone Poff; brothers, Arthur Poff and Victor Poff; grandson, J.D. Stump and her beloved husband of 60 years, George Thomas Stump. She is survived by her four children; Deborah Stump Thompson, Gary T. Stump, Rebecca Stump Rogers, John B. Stump and wife Lisa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and their spouses; Matthew and Angela Thompson, Eric and Monica Thompson, Roy Stump, Jennifer Stump, Beth and Clint Kinsey, Paul Rogers, Katie Rogers, Michael and Ginny Stump, and Michelle Stump as well as five great grandchildren; Kaelyn, Olivia, Tyler, Ella and Emerson. Barbara attended school in her native Virginia and then Flora Macdonald College and Radford College, but her “career”’ was her family. A volunteer at her children’s schools, and PTA president, she was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. For many years she played on a USTA tennis team, enjoyed bridge and a life-long love of reading led her to almost 50 years of oral book reviews to church groups, civic clubs and study clubs. A devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church since the family’s move to Gainesville in 1978, she served on the Vestry, as an adult teacher, as a member of the Building Committee and for many years as chairman of the Meals committee. Long active in community activities, Barbara was a member of the Lanier Study Club, Blue Chip Club and served on the boards of the Arts Council and the Quinlin Art Center. For a number of years a member of the Medical Center Auxiliary, she was a charter member of the northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation Board and Chairman of the 3rd Love Light Tree. She also served as City Chairman for the Cancer Society’s Annual Drive. Barbara played dulcimer with the Gainesville Strummers for many years and music of all kinds gave her a great deal of joy. With this in mind, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to “Friends of Music” at Grace Episcopal Church, 422 Brenau Ave. Gainesville, GA 30501. on November 4, 2012.5 She died on November 4, 2012 at Gainesville, Hall Co., Georgia, at age 81.5

"Bettie" Hundley circa 1877.4,1,5 Clifton Elkaney Elmore died on April 24, 1928 at Snowville, Pulaski Co., Virginia, at age 74.3,4 He Snowville, Va, May 5. - Burial services were held here on Thursday last for C. E. Elmore, who passed away after weeks of suffering. The service was conducted by Rev. Arthur Simmerly, of the East Radford Christian church, assisted by Rev. P. C. Horner, of the Methodist church. Quite a large crowd attended. Internment was in the cemetery here, by the side of his wife, who passed away two years ago. Mr. Elmore had been a Mason for years, and a large number of the Masonic fraternity from nearby towns were present and had charge of the service at the grave. The flowers were carried by Misses Ruby Carmel and Elizabeth Showalter and Janice Summers. Mr. Elmore, who was seventy-five years of age, had spent the greater part of his life in Snowville. His wife was Miss Elizabeth Hindley(Hundley - Scott). Three children are left, T. H. and R. E. Elmore and Miss Katie. on May 6, 1928.4

She was born March 12, 1918, to the late Roy and Bertha Graham. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Lillian G. Moore and Thomas Graham. Mrs. Poff is survived by her husband, A. L. Poff of Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Karen Poff, Victor and Marie Poff; two daughters, Sharon P. Patton, Sally P. Phillips, all of Christiansburg; two sisters, Madge E. Graham, Christine G. Fulks of Radford; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary G. and Albert Lurie of Syracuse, N.Y; one brother and sister-in-law, Everette and Doris Graham of Radford; four grandsons, Arthur Hamrick and wife, Janice, Darrell Hamrick, John Hylton, David Poff, all of Christiansburg; three granddaughters, Jennifer P. Cooper and husband, Lee, of Huntsville, Ala; Cathe Poff, Sara Phillips of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Layne Board, with interment in Sunset Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Arthur and Karen Poff, 2940 Riner Road, and will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home. Sally was born on August 30th, 1953, the youngest child of Arthur Lewis Poff, Sr. and Frances Graham Poff of Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Bertha Graham and Guy and Ella Poff, along with her parents. Those left to cherish the many fond memories of Sally are her son, Leighton John Hylton and his fiance, Marnie Turner of Floyd; daughter, Sara Phillips Bruce of Christiansburg, son-in-law, Mark S. Bruce of Blacksburg, and a very "special daughter", Crystie Leigh Currie and her husband, David of Christiansburg. She is also survived by her grandson, Jared Laurence Bruce. Her two brothers, Arthur Lewis Poff and his wife, Karen of Christiansburg and Victor Roy Poff and his wife, Marie of Roanoke also survive Sally, along with her sister, Sharon Poff King of Christiansburg. Her nieces, Jennifer Poff Cooper and husband, Lee and children, Alex and Inessa of Madison, Ala; Cathy Poff Harding and husband, Robert and children, Allison and Amber of Roanoke; nephews, Arthur Graham Hamrick and wife, Janice and daughter, Dana of Riner, David Michael Poff of Iowa City, Iowa and Darrell Guy Hamrick of Riner. Sally lived her life to the fullest and never let her disability stand in her way. She was admired by many for her passion and desire to live for the well of her children. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 16 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg.      Jacob Edwin Keith was buried at Sunset Cemetery, North Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.2 He married Susan Regan.2 Jacob Edwin Keith was born on March 19, 1917 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2 He married Edna Davis Akers on May 29, 1945 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1,2 Jacob Edwin Keith died on May 5, 2006 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 89.2 He Jacob Edwin Keith, 89, of Riner, prominent retired Montgomery County dairy farmer, passed away Friday, May 5, 2006, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Keith was born on March 19, 1917, in Floyd County, Virginia, the son of Waller P. and Mae Howell Keith. While a young boy, his family moved to the Montgomery County dairy farm near Riner, where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Keith was well-known in agricultural circles, having been active in many farming organizations including Southern States Advisory Board, Riner Area Young Farmers and Riner Grange. He was a member of the Montgomery County Planning Commission for sixteen years and served two terms as its chairman. He also served on the Equalization Board and the board of the American Red Cross. During his active retirement, Mr. Keith was known for his craft work, being an expert basket maker, chair caner and furniture refinisher. He often taught these skills in classes for the 4-H and the VT YMCA. Mr. Keith was predeceased by his first wife, Edna Akers Keith, his parents, two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his second wife, Susan Regan Keith; a son, Phillip E. Keith; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Arthur Poff, all of Riner/ Christiansburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Poff Cooper and husband, Lee of Madison, Ala; great-grandchildren, Jacob Alexander and Inessa Claire Cooper of Madison, Ala; stepchildren, Tommy Regan of Blacksburg, Dedee Regan of Charleston, S.C. and Sean Regan of Alexandria, Va; special cousin, David Myers and wife, Mariel of Sieverville, Tenn.
