She was raised in Floyd County, and she and Howard maintained homes in Roanoke and Floyd County. She was a longtime member of the First Church of the Brethren. Born June 10, 1904 she was the daughter of the late Samuel Zachariah and Maggie Vest DeWitt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by both her husbands, V.T. Strickler and Charles L. Murray, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Daisy D. Thomas of Floyd and Kate P. DeWitt of Copper Hill. Several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She had lived in Tazewell County for about forty years before retiring to Floyd County in 1982 and had just recently become a resident of Skyline Manor Nursing Home in Floyd. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Lester Kennedy at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at the Stonewall Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad, Floyd County Fire Department both of Floyd, Va. 24091, or to a charity of your choice. on December 8, 1998.2
