He was born on January 1, 1923 in Henry County, VA to the late James Alvah Miles and Velda Nelson Miles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Treva Rush Miles; sister, Mrs. H. J. “Dorothy” McConnell and brother, John Shelbourne Miles. Mr. Miles was a member of Traditional Christian Church, Collinsville, VA and a former member of Stone Memorial Christian Church. He was a retired mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for the Collinsville Post Office. Mr. Miles served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He played semi-pro ball in the 1940’s in the Blue Ridge and Bi State Leagues for local teams including the Martinsville Bees and the Martinsville Optimists. Also, he played softball for the DuPont Nyloners, Ayers and Rumley’s. Mr. Miles coached the CP’s Outlaws (Connie Mack League) and numerous Pony League teams and was known to many as “summertime dad”. An avid outdoorsman, he was a former member of the Henry County Bass Masters and loved to fish in Smith River. He traveled to South Dakota pheasant hunting numerous times over several decades. He loved Atlanta Braves baseball and Duke basketball. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Lee Anne M. Fuller and Frank Fuller, Jr. of Martinsville, VA; sister, Mrs. G. T. (JoLene) White of Martinsville, VA; step-grandchildren, Gina Chapman (Page) of Richmond, VA, Jimmy Fuller of Danville, VA, Meghan Coates (Brandon) of Richmond, VA, and Trey Fuller of Richmond, VA; step-great-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Chapman, Page Chapman V, and Mackenzie Coates. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Harris officiating. Mr. Manning was born on August 26, 1931 in Pemberton, WV to Howard and Nancy Marshall Manning. He is also survived by his sister Helen Preast and husband Robert of Albany, Ohio; brother Virgil Manning of MacArthur, West Virginia; brother Ross Manning of Ridgeville, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mr. Manning attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia and graduated from Beckley College with an Associate’s Degree. During the Korean War, Mr. Manning served honorably as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force. He served as a law enforcement officer for the Detroit Police Department for 35 years, retiring as a Detective Lieutenant. Mr. Manning was a faithful Christian and long time member of Temple Baptist Church in Detroit and of World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his son, grandsons, and great grandsons play baseball. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. on May 11, 2021.4

     Paul Delano Walters was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.4 He Paul Delano Walters, 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He was born in West Virginia on November 3, 1935 to the late, Seibert and Mary Walters. He was preceded in death by his brothers: William, Jessie, Benny and Jimmy Walters and his sister Elizabeth Hoback. He is survived by loving and devoted wife, Medora Donna Walters; daughters, Peggy and Dave Moss, Suzanne and Robert Lee, Debbie and John Childress and Laura and Charles Herrin; son, John and Patrica Worrel; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way. He received a bronze star w/ combat "V", five Good conduct medals and a purple heart for his time in Vietnam. During his tour in Vietnam he served as both a boat captain and patrol officer with River Division 535. He arrived in the division while it was engaged in the important and demanding Mang Thit Campaign. He quickly showed that he was the kind of high caliper, resourceful, petty officer who could be depended upon to perform under the most demanding circumstances. His performance during border interdiction operations on the Vinh Te Canal was especially exemplary and his personal effort significantly contributed to the success of River Division 535. He made 165 combat patrols and engaged the enemy on eight separate occasions. In every combat situation he displayed the best in leadership, courage and decisiveness.5 He was born on November 3, 1935 at West Virginia.2,3,4,5 He married Medora Donna Deedon on July 7, 1973 at Portsmouth, Virginia.2,3 Paul Delano Walters died on December 29, 2020 at Virginia at age 85.4,5
