Thomas Michael "Tommy" Poff Thomas "Tommy" Michael Poff of Christiansburg, Va. went home to be with the Lord in the hours that followed Christmas Day, a celebration of the birth of his Lord and Savior, to join the eternal celebration in Heaven, in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ and with all those who have gone before. Tommy was born in Montgomery County, Va on January 26, 1945 to Sidney and Mildred Poff of Christiansburg, Va. At the age of 18 he felt the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was an expert in rifle and pistol and an outstanding member of the United States Marine Corp. Competition Team. He received the National Defense Service Medal for his honorable service during the time of war and the Good Conduct Award for his exemplary behavior and efficiency. After serving his term of four years he received an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant in January of 1968. Upon returning home he returned to school to finish his senior year and graduated in 1969 from Christiansburg High School. He married Ann Dear of Christiansburg, Va on May 8, 1970. Tommy and Ann attended Cambria Baptist Church until they were led to become a part of another church at which time he became a founding and lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident to all who were blessed to know him. He devoted much time to the study of God's Word and put those principles into practice as he lived out his life before others. As he went about his day, he loved being outdoors in God's creation hunting or tending to his cows and dairy goats and often enjoyed singing hymns while he worked as an act of worship to the Lord. He was unashamed of His Savior and would openly speak to others about Him. He showed generosity by freely sharing his time and resources to help others. The deep love he had for his family was felt in the selfless acts of kindness he showed to them often. Just as he lived a life of service before men, he found comfort and peace in delighting himself in the Lord. He is survived by his daughter, Christy Poff Maxwell and son-in-law, Marty L. Maxwell of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Abby and Wesley Maxwell; brother, Donald R. Poff of Comanche, OK; sister, Linda S. Amendola of New Port Richey, FL; one aunt, Janice Furrow of Newport, Va; wife, Ann Poff of Christiansburg, Va; a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Mildred Poff, sisters, Barbara Poff and Harlena Dunn. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, with Pastor John Altizer and Pastor Monroe Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.3
