     Maurice Taswell "Bud" Akers Jr. Maurice “Bud” Akers of Christiansburg, Va, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, at the age of 79 with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on May 8th, 1944, to the late Maurice Tasewell Akers and Dorothy Poff Akers. Bud was a devoted family man and found great joy in spending time together. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Wilma “Winki” Thompson Akers, son Jon Akers and his wife Shannon, daughter Lisa Hamilton and her husband Eddie. Grandchildren Cody and his wife Laren Akers, Dylan Akers, Ty Akers, Emma Stone, Audrey Stone and Evan Stone. Great granddaughter Raleigh Akers and his sister Bonnie Cochran. Bud was an incredibly hard worker and was always willing to help others. He spent 31 years at Corning as well as running his own small engine business. He was the jack of all trades and could build or fix anything. After retiring he enjoyed restoring model A’s and traveling with his special model A family. He will be deeply missed and leaves behind many precious memories. A procession of Model A’s will lead to the interment at the Family Cemetery off of Alum Ridge Rd.4 He was buried at Thompson Family Cemetery, 1359 Easter Creek Road NW, Pilot, Montgomery Co., Virginia.4 He was born on May 8, 1944 at Alum Ridge, Floyd Co., Virginia.4,6 He married Wilma Jean "Winki" Thompson, daughter of Gold Valentine Thompson and Pearl Irene Lucas, on September 19, 1964 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.3,4 Maurice Taswell "Bud" Akers Jr. died on August 22, 2023 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 79.4

She was born on December 20, 1914. We were all looking forward to celebrating her 98th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Gold Thompson; two sons, Kenneth and Johnny Thompson; and a daughter, Mary Jones. Precious memories of Mom will live in many whose lives she touched, especially her family of three daughters, Corrine Vaughn, Betty and C.B. Linkous, and Winki and Bud Akers; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Altizer, Imogene Teel, Ida Mae Bishop and Jackie Shelton. Interment will follow in the Thompson Family Cemetery, Floyd County. on December 1, 2012.2

     Henry Iddings was buried at Head of the River Cemetery (also known as Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery), Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.2,1 He Arrived in Virginia from Pennsylvania before 1789, lived near Bent Mountain. Henry was enumerated in the 1810 Virginia census. Around 1820, the first Methodist church was built near the little village of Simpsons, better known as Locust Grove. The first church was called "Iddings Chapel" because the land was donated by the aging Henry Iddings. 1840 Floyd Co. Virginia Census, pg 171 Henry Iddings, 1 male & 1 female 70-79 yo, 1 female 40-49 yo, 2 males 30-39 yo, 1 female 20-29 yo, 1 male 5-9 yo, 1 male & 1 female 0-4 yo. The Will of Henry Iddings Jr. In the name of God Amen I Henry Iddings being old and infirm in boddy but perfectly sound in mind do make this my last Will and Testement as follows. Viz I give my boddy to the earth from whence it was taken in the certain assurance of hope that it be raised an immortal boddy at the riserrection(ressurection) at the last day and my soul to God who gave it and is able to preserve it and for the little property which by the blessing of God I have been able to gather I desire that it may be disposed of in the following manner. (Viz) First, after my honest debts is (are) discharged and the funeral expenses defraid (defrayed) I do give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary two hundred dollars in cash and two beds with steds and furniture sufficient for them and two milk cows () six head of sheep (and) one bureau (to keep for) her life time (;) then () if any remain (s) (are) not disposed of it is (they are) to be sold and (the proceeds) equally devided amonst the rest of my children only (except for) fifty dollars cash she can give to whom she pleases at her death(.) Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Carroll County, Va. on July 11, 2007.3

Pence, on February 26, 1880 at Craig Co., Virginia; Laura lists her parents as Stephen and Susan Hancock on her marriage license.11,1,2 Paul Newton Elmore died on August 23, 1924 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 75.1,5,2,3,4 He Paul Elmore, a former Craig citizen, son of the late Rev. A. J. Elmore and a brother of Mr. C. W. Elmore of New Castle, died at his home in Roanoke on Saturday, August 23rd, 1924, after a long illness, aged seventy-four years. The cause of death was bladder trouble and complications. He is survived by his wife and eight children. Mr. Elmore had been living in Roanoke for the past twenty-five years. circa August 26, 1924.5

     Abigail Olive Richardson Presumed to be buried beside her husband Henry under an unreadable stone in Head of the River Cemetery, Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia. She was born circa 1770 at Nantmeal, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. She married Henry Iddings on December 11, 1789 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1 As of December 11, 1789,her married name was Iddings. Abigail Olive Richardson died in 1845 at Floyd Co., Virginia.
