She was a loving wife to her husband of 51 years, Robert L. Hale. Surviving the bountiful love of their mother are three daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Jack Conner, Copper Hill, Va., Ginny and Mark Smith, Roanoke, Sandy and Jim Perdue, Copper Hill; and one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Debbie Hale, Cloverdale. The greatest love of her life were her five special grandchildren, Chris Conner, Greg and Amanda Conner, Heather Hale, Brad Hale and Brian Perdue. Also surviving are one brother, Marion Lilly, Richmond, Indiana; one sister, Harriet Fawcett, Richmond, Indiana; very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Jane Hale, William Hale and Jetta Holthaus, Nadine and Maurice Slusher; her very special friend in Christ, the Rev. Frank Wimmer; her special cousins-in-law, Loretta Luckadoo and Mary Condon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her neighborhood family who watched over and cared for her, Dr. James Witten, Amy and the Pulmonary Staff in the Pulmonary Department of Lewis-Gale; and the special angels of love from Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Linda, Lorita and Debbie. on November 17, 2000.5

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Hurst; and four children, Lucille, Dock, Russell, and Judy. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, D.C. "Sam" and Roberta Hurst, Shawsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mozelle and Buster Walters, Irene H. DeWeese, all of Copper Hill, Annie H. Conner, Salem, Lillie and Marvin Howard, Elliston, Phyllis and Ralph Agee, Copper Hill; son-in-law, Richard Pate; daughters-in-law, Gladys Hurst and Jean Hurst; 39 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's South Chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2001, with Pastor Virgil McHone and Pastor Leon Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. on August 24, 2001.1
