She loved her God and spent many hours reading and studying her Bible. Her Bible is well worn and contains many handwritten notes and highlighted passages. She spent many years working with children in her church, teaching Sunday school and directing Vacation Bible School for over 50 years. Later in her life, Janet pursued her passion for teaching and graduated from Radford University in 1991 with a degree in education. Mrs. Harrell taught Pre-K at Meadows of Dan Elementary for several years, touching the lives of many children. Even after retirement, Mrs. Harrell kept up with many of her students and celebrated their successes. Mrs. Harrell was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church for 48 years. She is survived by 4 daughters; Sandra (Ronnie) Thomas, Susan Hill, Sharon (David) Kimble, Terri Anne (Jeff) Hylton and 1 son Lester (Anita) Harrell; 10 grandchildren; Amy Harrell, Heidi (Chad) Foster, Kristina (David) Delp, Jennifer (Billy) Johnson, Heather (Jonathan) Butcher, Seth Harrell, Bremen (Autumn) Harrell, Amber (Ben) Davis, Lillian Harrell, and Carl Hylton; and 14 great grandchildren; Raylan, Josie and Helen Foster; Trey, William and Addyson Delp; Kayleigh, MaKinleigh and Samuel Johnson; Layla and Hattie Butcher; Lucas Harrell; Eiliss and Isaiah Davis. 1 sister, Margaret Harris and a sister-cousin Donna (Jerry) Bunce. She loved the outdoors, tending to her flowers and fruit trees, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She was a lunch buddy at Patrick Springs Primary School and with her husband as Santa Claus, she played Mrs. Claus at the school and for other functions. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Tim Nickelston of Lawsonville, NC; three sons and daughters-in-law, David Harris of Stuart, Michael and Dana Harris of Citz, Jeffery and Becky Harris of Patrick Springs; seven grandchildren, McCrae Nickelston and wife, Dawn, Andy Nickelston and wife, Jena, Cher Martin and husband, Kent, Kristen Harris, Makayleigh Harris, Faith Ruscelloni and husband, Christian, Nathaniel Harris and wife, Ashley; two children that were very special to her heart, Kendall and Riley Epperly; nine great-grandchildren, Bailey Cook and husband, Christian, Madison Martin, Maddi Ashburn, Elizabeth, Isaiah, Emma, Eden, Adalyn, and Palmer Nickelston; and one great-great-grandson, J.C. Gearheart of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dale Brown of Salem; son, Keith D. Gearheart of Staunton. He was "Pawpaw" to three loving and adoring grandchildren, Kimberly B. Hall and her husband, Tommy, Kelly C. Gearheart and J. Tyler Gearheart. Mr. Gearheart was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Ryan Gearheart. He is also survived by a daughter, Judy Adams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial will follow in the Timber Ridge A.R.P. Cemetery. on January 3, 2002.1
