She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Dunn of Roanoke, Iris Guynn Willis of Christiansburg; sons-in-law, John Dunn and Christy Sutphin, both of Roanoke; grandchildren, Vicky and Gerald Via, Cathy and Wendell Sowers, Eddie and Debbie Gallimore, Cindy Maxwell, Teresa Gallimore, Sonja and Chris Jones; step-grandchildren, Ricky Sutphin, Sherry Sutphin; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Claudine Wimmer of Copper Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ollie Mae Nichols, Thelma and Sam Ramsey, all of Roanoke, Mabel Manning of Copper Hill, Rheba and Warren Richard of Springfield; sister-in-law, Freeda Wimmer of Copper Hill. Funeral services will be held at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Worline and the Rev. Will Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. on August 16, 2002.6

Born to Thomas F. and Hattie DeWeese Wimmer on February 22, 1920 in Copper Hill, Va., she was an example of unconditional love to all who had the privilege to know her. Her beautiful smile and love for life brought joy to so many. She loved working in her yard and at her mountain homeplace. Her family was the center of her life and "Mama Hale" was so good to her many sweet "young uns." Laughter, music, and good food were always plentiful when you were together with her. Thelma was a member of First Church of the Nazarene for more than 50 years. She was active in her Sunday school class and enjoyed her trips with the Prime Timers. She was preceded in death by James Monroe Hale and Samuel J. Ramsey; sons "Little Jimmy" and Thomas "Buster" Hale; and grandson, Randy Lantz. Those surviving her are three children, Peggy Lantz (Ronnie) of Montvale, Douglas H. Hale and Jackie Renee Roberts of Roanoke; six grandchildren, David Lantz and Teresa Smith of Montvale, Belinda Hale of Richmond, Jimmy Hale and Chrisi Rice of Roanoke, and Tracy Gordon of Dublin. She had ten great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren. Surviving are two sisters, Mabel Manning and Rheba Richards; and one brother, Carl M. Wimmer. The Rev. Stephen Gordon, the Rev. Tracy Gordon, and the Rev. Maurice Wright will conduct a funeral service on March 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit at Oakeys South Chapel in Roanoke from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Arrangements by Oakeys South Chapel, 989-3131. on March 1, 2006.2

She is survived by her son and wife, James Lee (Jimmie) and Beverly Manning; brother and wife, Carl and Claudine Wimmer, of Copper Hill, Va; a sister and husband, Rheba (Toots) and Warren Richard, of Springfield, Va; three grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Julie Manning, of Lynchburg, Va., Paula Tompkins, of Roanoke , Va., and Michelle and Chris Woods, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Floyd, Va., relatives and friends who cared for her and supported her during her long illness. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, 8838 Floyd Hwy. N., Copper Hill, VA 24079. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Reverend Marty Moyer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to Amedysis Hospice. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. Chaplain Troy Mays will officiate. Interment will follow in Copper Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca (Becky); their three children, Ashley, Brooke, and Mitchell; his mother, Rose Peters Smith; six siblings, Clarence "Butch" Smith, Bonnie Bradley, Sandra Landen, Rosemary Curtis, Robert Smith, Denise "Dee Dee" Wilkinson. He was also very close to Becky's family, which includes six brothers and sisters that he claimed for his very own. He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence L. Smith. Barry was the main cheerleader for his kids as they played soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. He was also the main cheerleader for his wife when she would sing at local churches and events. Barry was self employed as the owner of Barry L. Smith Painting, and thoroughly enjoyed serving his customers. He attended the Church of The Holy Spirit in Roanoke, Virginia where both Barry and Becky are very active. Barry also served as an unofficial greeter, hugger, and encourager at his church. He loved Christ and his relationship with him was his anchor. When Barry was not with his family or at the church, he could be found at the YMCA lifting weights with his friends, as he did for so many years. He was an avid power lifter, in the Virginia Beach area, and enjoyed a close friendship with his workout buddies. Becky and Barry began their romance on the beach, fell in love and Becky looks forward to the day they can continue their walk together again. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. on October 10, 2004.6

Margaret Louise "Peggy" Hale Margaret "Peggy" Hale Lantz, 75 of Montvale, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Thursday, October 14, 1937 in Roanoke, daughter of the late James Monroe Hale and Thelma Louise Wimmer Hale. She was also preceded in death by a son, Randal Scott Lantz and a brother, Buster Hale. She was a retired bus driver for Bedford County Public Schools and was a member of Montvale Presbyterian Church. Surviving is her husband, Ronnie Lee Lantz; a son, David Michael Lantz of Montvale; a daughter, Teresa Marie Smith & friend, Mike Dalton of Montvale; four grandchildren, Dana Guess, Allison Lee, Zachary Lantz, Wesley Smith; four great grandchildren; a brother, Douglas Hale of Roanoke; and a sister, Jackie Roberts of Roanoke. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004. Douglas Hugh "Hugh" Hale Douglas Hugh Hale (Hugh D), 77 of Roanoke, VA passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born on June 11, 1943. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was in the Vietnam War. Doug worked as a banker and retired after many years of service. He enjoyed spending time at his lake home and but most importantly he loved his family and always looked forward to spending time with them on the mountain. Doug was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed antique cars and loved animals. He always had a smile that would light up the room and had a great sense of humor that would keep everyone laughing. He never met a stranger and was well loved by everyone. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Hale; sister, Peggy Lantz; brother, Thomas Lynwood Hale; Little Jimmy. Those remaining to cherish his memory includes his daughter, Belinda Hale, of Richmond, VA; his son, Jim D. Hale, of Roanoke; granddaughter, Holly A. Hale, of Roanoke; sister, Jackie R. Roberts, of Roanoke; favorite ex-wife, Dee Dixon; special friend, “Cupcake”, of Roanoke; as well as several nieces, nephews and lots of cousins. A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Oakey’s South Chapel with Pastor Harvey Nichols officiating.
