She also attended Lashmeet Elementary and Matoaka High School. Left to cherish her memory of 50 years is her husband John Coan. She is also survived by Daughters Stephanie Coan and Lindy Sisemore of Gainesville, VA. and Grandchildren Samantha and Justin Sisemore also of Gainesville, VA. She is also survived by the following siblings: Manuel and Lorraine Hall of Toledo Ohio, Sandra Reynolds of Rock, WV, Rita Shrewsbury of Narrows, VA and Rhonda Dunford and husband Keith of Rocky Gap, VA. Rachel loved the Lord and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Bealton, VA. Rachels' wishes were to be cremated and at a later date buried at the Shutt/Shrewsbury cemetery at Rock, WV. on November 11, 2023.3

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Agnes Shorter Hall of Princeton; one daughter, Virginia Winfrey and her husband, Harold of Princeton; one son, Darrell Hall and his wife, Floetta of Kenova; five grandchildren, Gary Winfrey and his wife, Jo Anne, Mark Winfrey and his wife, Becky, David Winfrey, Darrell Hall, ll and his wife, Janet, and Bobby Hall and his wife, Sandy; great-grandchildren, Matthew Winfrey, Garrett, Adam and Matthew Hall; one brother, Clifton Hall of Roanoke, Va; four sisters, Ocie Harvey of Princeton, Gertrude Higginbotham of Kansas City, Kan., Carman Massey and her husband, Clifton of Fountain Hills, AZ and Ruth Whittaker of Fairless Hills, PA. Born to Roscoe and Faye Hall, in Princeton, West Virginia on September 5, 1917, she was one of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Perry Cahill Whittaker for 67 years, until his death in 2007. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, and took many cruises over the years. Ruth lived a long, active, independent life. Joining the YMCA, she took several exercise classes and even learned to like the pool. Love of her family along with flower gardening and entertaining were the loves of her life. She was a long time member of Oxford Valley Chapel. She is survived by their three children; daughters, Ann Clyburn of Florida; Sonya McClimans of Fairless Hills; and son Perry Randall Whittaker and wife, Donna, also of Fairless Hills. In addition, granddaughter, Kara Engelman and husband, Gary and son, Dylan of Fairless Hills; grandson Brian Whittaker and wife Angela and son Drew, of Tennessee; granddaughter, Heather Conover of Rhode Island; and two great grandsons, Aidan and Samuel Conover also of Rhode Island. The youngest of eight children, Gertie was born in West Virginia to Roscoe Stanton Hall and Fay Bailey Hall. She was affectionately called "Tudie" by her brothers and sisters, since as a small child, this was her own pronunciation of her name. Gertie was married to the love of her life, Arthur (Art) Higginbotham in 1950, and resided much of her life in the Raytown, MO area. Gertie and Art were married 34 years until his death in 1984. She was baptized July 6, 1973, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, where she was actively involved for many years. She had many interests in her life including, cake decorating, candy making, dog training, sewing, gardening, becoming an artist, traveling, and golfing. She was a marvelous cook and loved preparing elegant gourmet meals for her friends and family. Whatever her endeavor, it was done with excellence! Gertie is survived by siblings Carmen Massey of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Clifton Hall of Roanoke, Va., and Ruth Whittaker of Fairless Hills, Pa. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family is especially grateful to Garden Terrace of Overland Park, for their excellent care in the last phase of her life. on May 22, 2016.3

Thurman Hall and wife Lena of Princeton; and a host of nieces and nephews; her special caregiver, Rosie Culberson. Burial will follow in the Hall Family Cemetery near Princeton. on March 29, 2010.1

Mrs. Foley had been a life long resident of Pipestem except for the last four years of her life, she then moved to Bassett to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Lerona United Methodist Church at Lerona. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She was the director of Pipestem's Branch of Mountain Artisans Co-op. Mrs. Foley retired from the Pipestem State Park with over 10 years of service. After her retirement, she continued quilting, reading, gardening and sharing her life with her family, she also enjoyed the companionship with her dog Candy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Basil Hall and a sister, Ruth Tyree. Left to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Richard S. Foley of Pipestem; a son, Steven D. Foley and wife Diana of Axton, Va; four daughters, Debra Volkmer and husband Donald, MD, FACP of Spencer, N.C., Lola Kathy Horton and Alice F. Jarrett of Bassett, and Peggy F. Washburn of Vesta, Va; 10 grandchildren, Rene Pendleton, Angela Horton, Jennifer Donnelly, Veronica Brabb, Farrah Lilly USCG, Ricky Foley, Amanda Horton, Michael Foley U.S. Army, Joshua and Lauren Jarrett; nine great grandchildren. Burial will follow in the Wood/Foley Cemetery at Pipestem. on August 3, 2004.2
