Bill James "Billy" Harter Billy James Harter, 82, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his residence. He was born April 1, 1940, in Floyd, Virginia, to the late James Mason and Nancy Annie Belcher Harter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Tammy Harter Terry and Penny Harter; sister, Frances Harter Cochram; and brother, Freeman Harter. He worked at Stanley Furniture for over forty years as a sander, and was a member of Collinsville Covenant Brethren Church. He never met a stranger and always welcomed everyone with open arms. He loved his grandchildren, was light hearted and joked a lot. He enjoyed watching westerns and doing word puzzles. He loved sitting on the porch with his dog Suzy, watching the cars go by. Billy is survived by his wife, Ruby Wilson Harter; son, Tony Harter (Angel); sister, Rachel Heffinger; brother, Bobby Harter (Charlotte); grandchildren, Anna Terry, Valery H. Jacobson (Josh), Emma H. Shrewsberry (Tanner), Matthew Terry and Zackary Harter; and many nieces and nephews. Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne and Buck Yeatts of Copper Hill and Mary Smith of Midlothian; five brothers, Robert Smith, R. B. Smith and Ray Smith, all of Copper Hill, Sam Smith and Herbert Smith of Roanoke; two sisters, Myrtle Curran of Clearwater, Fla. and Ocie Smith of Titusville, Fla; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. on April 4, 2005.4

Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery at Rock. Members of the VFW Post 9696 will conduct graveside rites. on July 2, 1987.8

The victim was identified as Bobby Douglas Horne of Box 24, Rock. State Trooper F. E. Thomas conducted the investigation, but was not available for comment. A spokesman for the state police detachment in Princeton Friday said Thomas was off duty and would not return until Sunday. Horne was born at Mineral, Va., a son of Rev. Robert Horne and Gertrude Mooney Horne of Mineral. He was a member of the Wright Mountain Independent Baptist Church. An Army veteran for 21 years, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, having retired as a serviceman. He had been a resident of Rock for 19 years. Additional survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelene Gearheart Horne; one son, Mark A. Horne of Rock; one daughter, Mrs. (Cynthia) Peake of Rock; one brother, Paul Horne of Louisa, Ky; two sisters, Norm a Horne of Louisa, Va., and Rev. Shelva Horne of Princeton; and one grandson. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery on Wright Mountain. on April 7, 1984.4

Laura Iless Carr was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.3 She was born on October 29, 1936 at Floyd Co., Virginia.4 As of June 6, 1959,her married name was Gisiner.5 She married Leonard Ward Gisiner Jr., son of Leonard Ward Gisiner Sr. and Frances Leone Ireland, on June 6, 1959 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.6,2,3,5 Laura Iless Carr died on April 25, 2019 at Virginia at age 82.3 She Laura Iless Carr Gisiner, 82, went to her heavenly home Thursday April 25, 2019. She was born in Floyd County, Va. and later moved to Roanoke County, Va. She was predeceased by her parents, Alvis Carr and Evelene Carr Short, and step-father, John T. Short. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leonard W. Gisiner, Jr; son and daughter in law, Len and Sandra Gisiner; daughter and son in law, Laureen Gisiner and Brian Hamilton; grandchildren, Courtney (Jon) Templeton, J.T. (Becca) Gisiner, Nick (D'Anna) Hamilton; great grandsons, Jack and Lennon; sister and brother in law, Shelby and Edgar Hodges; brothers in law, Frank (Judy) Gisiner, Tom (Sandra) Gisiner; nieces and nephews, Gil Hodges, Ginger Hodges, Michelle Johnston, Mark Gisiner, Kirk Gisiner and Justin Gisiner. Iless was a member of Calvary UMC (Salem) for over 30 years and recently attended Campbell Memorial Presbyterian (Vinton). She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, a philanthropic and educational sorority and a charter member of Beta Delta Chapter in Roanoke. Iless worked for many years with the Wiley N Jackson and Adams Construction Companies. She loved to sing and enjoyed her flowers. The family expresses thanks to The Hermitage, Gentle Shepherd Hospice, and Generations Solutions for the care provided. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on April 27, 2019.3
