His love for his Country lead him to enter the U.S. Navy in 1944 and transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1947. Throughout his 22 year career, he worked mostly with munitions, but the last 6 years were spent as a First Sergeant, proudly touching many lives and making good men into great soldiers. After retiring in 1966, he took up real estate and spent time with his family. In his spare time, he wrote numerous letters to Presidents, Congress, and State Legislatures, in hopes of making a difference. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mary E. Mills; his daughter, Reese Mills of Destin, Fla; son, Michael (Linda) Mills, of Saint Cloud, Fla; grandchildren, April (Tim) Chapel, of Crestview, Fla., Brandon Patzig of Destin, Fla., Stacey Mills of Saint Cloud, Fla; his brother, Randolph (Joyce) Mills of Fayetteville, N.C; his sisters, Blanche Foster, Hazel Naff, Nellie (Charles) Bushnell, Ellen (David) Dodson, all of Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews. The Mills family would like to give a special thanks to the CNA, Chasity Wiseman for her loving care and devotion, and to "Little Fella" Madison Wiseman, for bringing smiles and joy in his final days. They would also like to thank Covenant Hospice of Niceville, Fla. for their assistance and loving care. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Wednesday, March 10, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Burrell Baker officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Monte Vista Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Franklin County.
