Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Harless Vest; her brother, Bruce Compton; her sister, Hazel Howery; and her parents, Nellie and Ward Compton. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Wanda Radford; her precious granddaughter, Amy Phillips; and her precious great-granddaughter, Taylor Phillips all of Floyd. Also, her half sisters, Louise Via (Theodore), of Floyd; Lucy McAlexander (Charlie), of Pfafftown, N.C; and stepsister, Patsy Cockram (Welby), of Floyd. Ruby was also blessed to have four sisters-in-law, Claudine Haynes (Don); Lorine Huff (David); Ina Wood (Herbert); and Christine Vest. Her family was always there for her after her husband's death, and she loved them with all her heart. In addition, she had many nieces and nephews who were a blessing to her life. Ruby also leaves behind many good friends throughout the community who she loved. She was a hard worker but was always willing to do for others. Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Jacksonville Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Womack officiating. The Floyd Baptist Church will provide a meal for the family after the graveside service. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to The Floyd County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 257 Floyd, VA 24091 or to Skyline Nursing and Rehab "Resident Fund" 237 Franklin Pike SE Floyd, VA 24091. The family will meet at Maberry Funeral Home for a private viewing from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. on March 16, 2013.2

(Barbara) Haynes; and nieces, Anita (Lamont) Lancaster and Debra Cook. She also enjoyed a part-time job a Cox's Fashions in Rocky Mount. Other special interest included volunteering at the Free Clinic of Franklin County and Blue Ridge Dinner Theater. "Shelby Jean" will be truly missed by many friends and family. Surviving are her two sons and daughters-inlaw, Mark L. and Alison Vest, and Greg M. and Terri Vest; one brother, Mack C. Martin; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Ann and Tommy Rutherford; five grandchildren, Megan, Taylor, Jared, Nicholas and Luke; seven nieces; 12 nephews; and a very special friend of 43 years, Joanne Brown. Funeral Services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011, with the Rev. Mike Lawhorn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount. on August 13, 2011.2
