He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Marie Cartwright; four brothers; and a sister. Today, Carl is celebrating his ninety sixth birthday in heaven. Carl is survived by his wife, Mae M. Dobbins; sister, Iva M. Bower; daughter, Elizabeth Whitlock and son Kyle Dobbins; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on June 5, 2014 at Gardner Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Cannaday and Reverend Hebron Quesenberry officiating . Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, Va. Friends may call after 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home on June 4, where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to Good Samaritan Hospice, NRV; 1160 Moose Dr. NW; Christiansburg, VA 24073. on June 4, 2014.2

Born on May 5, 1918, Mae was 100 years young when she was enfolded into Gods loving arms. Mae is predeceased in death by her parents, Winfield & Fannie West; her husband, Carl L. Dobbins; granddaughter, Marie Cartwright; two brothers & one sister. Mae is survived by her devoted cat, Dream, daughter Elizabeth Whitlock, son, Kyle Dobbins, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren & five great-great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family expresses their gratitude to everyone who assisted with Mae's care, for the visits and cards. Iva Mae Dobbins died on September 30, 2014 at Virginia at age 87.3,7 She Iva Mae Bower, 87, of Floyd, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lula Mae Dobbins. She was predeceased by her sister, Ada Basham; and brother, Carl Dobbins. She also was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Fred Lewis Bower. She worked hard all her life, and was a devoted mother. She was known as an excellent cook and she loved her cats. She also enjoyed her neighbors and loved to share old timey ways with them. Left to treasure her memory are her children: Calvin Bower and wife, Mary of Salem, Ginger B. Conner of Virginia Beach, G.G. Bower and fiance, Mary Owens of Floyd. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jessica Bean and husband, J.C. of Roanoke, David Stump and wife, Lisa of Moneta, Teresa Basham and husband, Dikki of Salem, along with Katrina Conner, Samuel Conner, & Benjamin Conner all of Virginia Beach. She had four great grandchildren, Peyton James McGrady and Delia Rose Bean of Roanoke and Michael and Stephanie Stump of Moneta. Also treasuring her memory is her "very special friend" and companion, Bud Lorleberg of Floyd who brought love and laughter into her life for 14 years. Her children can never thank him enough for caring for their mom. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. on October 3, 2014.3
