     George Kyle Cole was born on September 14, 1958.² He died on March 31, 2007 at Virginia at age 48.² He George Kyle Cole departed his earthly life Saturday night, March 31, 2007 at the age of 48. He was born September 14, 1958 and was a tremendously unique individual. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin L. Cole; and a brother, Darry Lee Cole. Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, J. Kyle and Mae S. Cole, and George and Allie J. Peters. George Kyle experienced many passions in his life through, farming, truck driving, real estate, auctioneering, fence building and logging timber. He is survived by his loving mother, Clarice P. Cole of Pilot; one sister, Durene C. Cupp, Christiansburg; a daughter, Susan Dickerson; a granddaughter, Ashlynn Jean Kemp, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by a very special nephew and his wife, Darren and Tammy Keith; one grandniece, Grace-Katherine Durene and three grandnephews, Joshua Dean, Cole Gabriel, and Mason Kyle Keith, all of Pilot. A special thanks for the kindness and care given to George Kyle goes to the New River Nephrology Office, Drs. Travede and Baker, Carolyn and Denise, The New River Valley Dialysis Center and the many nurses and doctors at the New River Valley Medical Center who have always shown extra love over the past 3½ years. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening with a memorial service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Leon Alley, officiating at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, Virginia. He was the loving and devoted husband of Marilyn (Dianne) Mayo Eanes for 45 years. Born in Lynchburg on July 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Walter S. Eanes, Sr. and Constance Huffman Eanes. He was retired from VDOT after 36 years of service, a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, Lynchburg Coin Club, Lynchburg Amateur Radio, Lynchburg Sports Car Club, and the Civil Air Patrol at New London Airport. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, CDR Clinton Scott Eanes, USN and wife Inga; a daughter, Melissa Eanes Blomquist and husband, Scott; four grandchildren, Caleb, Asher, Eden and Jordan Blomquist and also Walter knew of a fifth grandchild due in August. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Roy C. Mayo Jr. and wife Martha; two brothers-in-law, Roy C. Mayo III and wife Cheryl, Timothy W. Mayo and wife Sandi; two cousins, Jane Walton and husband, Ezra and William Huffman. He was a Director for the Virginia Tech Foundation and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, and was serving as President and Director of Hotel Roanoke Foundation, Inc. He was a past President and Director of Credit Marketing and Management Association and also served as Chairman of the Legislative Committee. Mr. Hoback was awarded the Virginia Tech Alumni Association "Alumni Distinguished Service Award" in 1993.      Martha Christian Hoback married Charles M. "Charlie" Crutchfield.^2,3,1 Her married name was Crutchfield. Martha Christian Hoback was born on December 15, 1959. She died on May 23, 2007 at age 47.¹ She Martha Christian Hoback Crutchfield, 47, of Daleville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Harold N. Hoback and Betty Thompson Hoback. Christi was a graduate of Northside High School and Virginia Tech. She is survived by her daughter, Laura; her brother, David Hoback, and wife, Marie; her nieces, Samantha and Macie Hoback; her ex-husband, Charlie Crutchfield; her uncle, Dr. Steve Thompson; her aunts, Dene Young, Augusta Thompson, Nora Rucker, and Carole Thompson; many cousins; special friends, Rob and Beth Crittenden, and friends at Roanoke Valley Wine Company.      Fletcher Lee DeWeese was buried at Pocahontas Cemetery, Rt. 102, Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., Virginia.² He was born on April 3, 1888 at Simpsons, Floyd Co., Virginia.^6,1,2,3 He married Bertha "Vidie" Hufford on June 20, 1917 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.^7,8 Fletcher Lee DeWeese died on June 9, 1924 at McComas, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 36; Burned to death in a fire that claimed the lives of four other Deweese family members.^6,2 He 8 DEAD IN MERCER FROM CLOUDBURST. Home Buried Under Slate Pile; New Roads in McDowell Badly Damaged. WELCH, June l0. - State highway construction received a set-back here yesterday when several miles of newly graded road were washed out by a cloudburst on the North fork of the Elkhorn river. Roads east and west of Welch were blocked. In some places being under five or six feet of water. A coal tipple at Rolfe and a number of small houses along the river bank at Keystone, Northfork and Superior were washed away, and basements of about 20 stores were flooded. Damage in the Elkhorn valley was estimated to reach at least $100,000. Much damage was done in Mercer county where eight lives were lost and bridges and sections of rail lines washed away. The fatalities occurred on Crane creek near the tipple of the American Coal company. A huge pile of slate, undermined by the water, crushed onto a house at the foot of the pile, burying seven people. The eighth victim was a member of a rescue party. The dead: Mrs. Shellmon C. Vest and 5-year-old son; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Dewese, Mrs. Toney Dewese and two daughters, 2 and 5 years of age, and Amelio Premoveno, the last named being a member of a rescue party. It may be several days, it was said, before the bodies can be recovered from under the slate. on June 10, 1924.⁹

Bell, 18, who died Friday morning at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. M. J. Bell, of Copper Hill, Virginia, were held Saturday afternoon at the Salem church, Copper Hill. He had been a patient at Catawba Sanatorium, returning home two months before his death. He is survived by two brothers, Ray and Curtis Bell. on July 30, 1929.⁵
