Parsons, 81, of Brazil, died unexpectedly Oct. 6, 2009, at her residence. She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Poland, Ind., the daughter of Edward P. Green and Mae Tapy Green. She graduated from Van Buren High School and was the class valedictorian of 1945. On June 19, 1945, she married Robert E. Parsons. Robert had a position with the Indiana Correctional facility at Putnamville, so the family lived on site for many years. During this time, Viola worked at DePauw University in the Reproduction Department for over 17 years. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Eminence School Corporation. Viola was one who believed in education, and in 1991 she achieved her B.S. degree from Indiana State University in business. Viola enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, playing euchre, and had lately found enjoyment in learning about Wii games, especially bowling. She had a talent for counted cross-stitch projects and making crafted dish cloths for family and friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Parsons; one son, Richard Joseph Parsons; and one brother, Lester Green. Survivors include her daughter, Sheryle Parsons Yount and husband Barton of Arlington, Va; one brother, Herbert Green and wife Katherine of Chula Vista, Calif; one sister-in-law, Mildred Teter and her son George Teter of Brazil; nieces and nephews, Diana Rollings (Tom) of Indianapolis, Karen Cartwright (Kenny) of Nassau, Bahamas, David Green (Pam) of Terre Haute, DeLynn Gawron (John) of Chula Vista, Scott Green (Jane) of San Diego, Toni Koval (Joe ) of Tennessee, Don Wood (Pauline) of Hartford, Conn., Howard McClure of Stateboro, Ga., Randy Porter (Cindy) of Brazil; great-grand-nieces and nephews, Demi Cartwright, Cari Cartwright, Nikki Green (Donica), John Christopher Gawron, James Herbert Gawron, Kathryn Green, Kristen Green, Scott Green Jr., Paul Koval, Chalissa Koval, Monte Porter (Stacie), Kevin Porter (Natasha), Doug Porter, and Heather Hardman (Casey); and several great-great-nieces and nephews and extended family. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., in Brazil, with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Indiana State University Foundation, 320 Gillum Hall, Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN 47809. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. on October 7, 2009.1
