Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ken Farrar officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Self and husband Warren of Christiansburg, Cynthia S. Craddock and husband Tommy of Cloverdale; grandchildren, Christina Hatherly and husband John of N. Barrington, Illinois, Kelly Sweatt and husband Bill of Church Hill, Tenn., Michelle Rackley and husband Mark of Rydal, Georgia, Sidney M. Scott IV and wife Becky of Roanoke, Travis Craddock and Katrina Craddock, both of Cloverdale; great-grandchildren, David Sweatt, Grace Scott, Celine Hatherly, Sarah Catherine Rackley, Paul Rackley, Andrew Scott, Samuel Sweatt, Sean Hatherly, Anna Rackley, and Matthew Sweatt. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Joseph C. Thomas Center, and the staff at Richfield Care and Recovery Center, 2 East for their many acts of kindness. on December 14, 2006.7

He became a Christian in October 1943 in Church of Brethren and entered Christian Ministry in 1971 and was Ordained in the Church of Brethren and served as Pastor of Smith Chapel, West Virginia, Red Oak and Stonewall Church. He served six years on District Board in Ministry and Finance comm., served nine years on Small Membership Cong comm., visited many churches and encouraged them, touched hundreds of lives and he helped lead many to Christ and Baptized them, conducted many funerals, anointing services and weddings, also made thousands of visits in homes, hospitals and nursing homes and conducted many revivals services in three different states. Funeral Services will be held at Gardner Funeral Home on Saturday September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elbert Lee Naff Jr. and the Rev. Robin Naff Officiating with entombment in the Mausoleum at Roselawn in Christiansburg. on September 6, 2018.4

He owned and operated Gearhart's Shoe Repair, started by his grandfather in 1918, until closing the business in 1994. A 76 year old tradition in downtown Salem. Dewey was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church, Deacon and Director of the Sunday School Department and Sunday School Teacher. He was also an avid fisherman, enjoyed following UVA sports and loved cheering for his grandson on the baseball field.
