She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leonard Oakley Howard; and her parents, Millard and Ruby Poff. She is survived by her oldest son and caregiver, Larry Howard; her sons and daughters-in-laws, Kelly and Lisa Howard, and Tony and Ronda Howard; grandchildren, Tara Howard, Cris and Casey Howard, Michael Watson, Zack and Jessica Watson, and Amanda Watson; greatgrandchildren, Isaac and Caleb Howard, Briona and Michael Watson, and Matthew Kirby; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Shirley Poff, Carl and Odessa Poff, Junior and Frances Poff, and Roger and Emma Poff; sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine Thomas, and Frances and James Sowers; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Media Hospice personnel for all their devotion and kindness to Gwen during her illness. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, Franklin County. on May 12, 2010.3

He was born in Roanoke, Va. on February 27, 1945 to the late William and Alice Lucas Sledd.
