A graveside service will be conductedat Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Lethia was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and best friend. Through her nursing she cared for others for 41 years. Throughout her life she cared for many family members and dear friends. She will be remembered and missed by all her loved ones. on October 1, 1995.2

He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Dreama Lam Manning, who loved him beyond words; his sister, Regina Leigh Manning; his brother, Robert Custer Manning; his niece, Brittney Lethia Colleen Manning; his nephew, Brandon Millard Melvin Manning and his wife, Brandi; his great-nephew, Conner Aaron Manning; Brandon and Brittney's mom, Cheryl Witt; his special Aunt, Gloria Dene Lancaster; his Uncle, Lewis Custer; his special cousin, Cary Custer; his step-children, Katie Alison Leslie, Joshua Timothy Pinkard and Mary Elizabeth Pinkard; his Godson, Caleb Christian Campbell and Goddaughter, Maria Ashley Ray; his special furry, four-legged family, Sampson, Elvis, Nemo and JB (James Bond), along with many other special family and friends. He is also survived by his steadfast Army and 82nd Airborne comrades, as well as his dedicated, supportive and selfless family in blue. Lin was one of the bravest, toughest, yet most loving man to his wife, friends, and family. Lin knew when he was 10 or younger that he wanted to serve his country. His mother could not pass an army navy store without having to stop. He also had a 10 year work history with Kroger who allowed his military leave to serve his country while working for them. Lin graduated in 1990 from Cave Spring High School where he wrestled on the varsity wrestling team. He went on to serve in the Army from 1990 until his honorable discharge in 1997, after serving as a Sergeant to D Company, 1st Battalion, 82D Aviation Regiment, 82D Airborne Division. Lin joined the Roanoke City Police Department in 1997, where he was a leader, instructor, Tactical Response Team member, cold case specialist and homicide detective from 2004 to 2014. Lin had a love for life, white water rafting, scuba diving, traveling, hiking, kayaking, to name a few. He also had a special love for his family, his family that is ever so close. He will be sadly missed and live in the hearts of many forever. on July 22, 2014.2

Clayton was a veteran in the United States Army serving in World War II. He fought and served in the Pacific theatre of war. After the war Clayton was a dairy farmer in Hampstead, Maryland. He was always proud of his Black Angus Beef cattle and Holstein dairy cows. He loved his John Deere tractors to do all his work. He was also a member of Greenmount United Methodist Church in Hampstead, Maryland. Most notably he was an amazing husband, great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was very important to him. He always enjoyed getting together during holidays and having crabs in the summer with his family. He was well respected in the community and a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children: Ronald Clayton Poff and wife Carolyn, Faye Ann Niner and Lou Ann Poff all of Hampstead, Maryland. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings: Evelyn Marie Poff, Hazel Ethel Poff, Carlton Hurt Poff, Geneva Juanita Poff, Hubert Poff, Dorothy Helen Poff, and son-in-law Robert L. Niner. on August 31, 2020.5

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Sheldon M. Poff and Vernon O. Hoback; as well as two sisters, Arietta "Retta" Holland and Mabel Beckner. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Decker and her husband, Richard "Dick" Decker Jr., of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Richard "Chip" Decker III and his wife, Marla, of Richmond, and Sharyn Pugh and her husband, Chris; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Pugh, all of Salem; and two very special friends, Stephen and Nancy Kessler, of Roanoke. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for the kindness, care and love shown during her stay there. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. on January 19, 2011.4

Paul was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High school, a veteran of World War II and retired from Norfolk Western Railroad. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and a special niece, Dorsey Smith Duncan and her husband, Dan of Timberlake, N.C. Graveside services will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park. on October 4, 2007.5

Mr. Sowder was a life-long resident of the Roanoke Valley. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and Virginia Southern College, and served with the United States Navy during the end of World War II. He was employed for 30 years by Turner Brothers (Highway) Contractors, then worked for Bennett Construction Company and Salem Stone Corporation until his retirement in 2008. A devoted Christian, Mr. Sowder was a life-long member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He spent much of his life compassionately helping others through his church, volunteerism and gifts. He was often recognized for his generous community service including a Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mr. Sowder was predeceased by his parents, Claude E. and Essie A. Sowder; brother, Paul C. Sowder; and his precious wife of 55 years, Nancy M. Sowder. He is survived by a sister, Marcena P. Walker; two sons, Stephen L. and David L. Sowder; daughters-in-law, Diane J. Sowder and Pamela C. Sowder; grandchildren, David Adam Sowder, Stephanie K. Sowder and Kaye Lynn Sowder; nephew, Ronald Phennicie and his wife, Evelyn. The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated and skillful care by the RMH Neurological Unit, Raleigh Court Healthcare, Emeritus Roanoke, and especially the ladies with Sitter Solutions. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, 2138 McVitty Road, Roanoke. Pastor Ed Woodard will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Sowder suggested a gift to the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. on April 9, 2011.4

     John Lewis Reed Sr. was born on November 12, 1927 at Airport, Roanoke Co., Virginia.5,6 He married Priscilla Ann VanCamp on December 14, 1958 at Orange Co., Florida.4 John Lewis Reed Sr. died on October 1, 2018 at Ormond Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, at age 90.7 He John Lewis Reed, 90, of DeLand, Florida (formerly of Orlando) passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 surrounded by family at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Ormond Beach, Florida. He was born in Air Point, Virginia to the late Ramon R. and Nora Mae Reed. John’s first love was his family; however, the car industry was a close second. In 1950, John, his father and brothers founded Reed Motors, Inc. and it is stil l family owned to this day. Mr. Reed spent time with his family traveling, boating and RVing. He is pre ceded in death by his brothers, Ray Reed, Jr. and Bob Reed. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Priscilla Reed; sons, John (Tammy) Reed, Jr., Raymond “Raymy” (Lisa) Reed; grandson, Connor Alexander Reed; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Reed and nine furry family members. on October 7, 2018.7

He was the third of three sons. Older brother, Raymond Reeves Jr. also, preceded him in death. Middle brother, John Lewis Reed Sr. is retired, living in Deland, FL. The Reed family moved to Lakeland, FL in 1934. Here the sons grew up, attending school, joined the military, etc. In 1950, they all moved to Orlando, where father and sons all invested, and established Reed Motors Inc., doing business now as Reed Nissan. Bob served as com-pany representative to the C.F.A.D.A., and served on the auto shoe committee. He also served as representative to the Fla. Citrus Sports Assoc., of which the family business was a supporter for years. Bob was an avid sportsman, and especially liked participating in hunting, fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed watching sports on T.V. He was a longtime member of Dubsdred Golf Club. For the past 27 years, his life was enriched by Roberta Breene, his significant other. Since 2004 Bob had been officially retired. On May 11, 2009, he passed away at The Parks Rehab Center. He had been seriously ill and was hospitalized since Dec. 19, 2008. The family and his many friends will remember him for his kind, helpful and humorous way. He is survived by: significant other, Roberta Breene; brother, John Reed Sr; nephews, John Reed Jr., Raymond Reed, Mark Reed; great nephew Connor Reed and niece Bonnie Reed Altamus. on May 15, 2009.3

Lucas, and was also preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth E. and Richard G. Lucas; brothers, William, Howard, Lawrence, Douglas, and Warren Lucas; and a sister, Oneita Booker. Mr. Lucas served the Lord at New Hope Christian Church, and was retired co-owner of Lucas Brothers Garage and Luke's Wrecker Service. Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred B. Lucas; son and daughter-in-law, Howard L. and Sue Lucas, Vinton; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn L. and Carl V. Barker, Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Barbara T. Lucas, Roanoke; grandchildren, Terrie Philpott, Lisa Anderson, Melissa Lucas, Jennifer Chumley, Howard Lucas II, Kim Agner, Scott Barker, Stacy Boris, Ricky Lucas, and Jason Lucas; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary L. Williams, Salem, Cecelia L. Snyder, Daleville; brother, Burrell Lucas, Raleigh, N.C. Interment will follow in the Campbell Cemetery. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to Cliff Chumley for his care and devotion provided during Paw-Paws illness. on May 20, 2006.10

Warren was killed aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) on March 19, 1945 along with 724 other crew members. The Franklin was about 50 miles off the coast of Japan when it was attacked by a Japanese airplane.3 He Seaman Second Class Warren P. Lucas, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Lucas, of RFD 5, Roanoke, has been killed in action in the South Pacific. Lucas, whose wife, Mrs. Dorothy Brizendine Lucas, and daughter, Diane, live on RFD 3, Boone Mill, is survived by six brothers and three sisters. They are: William E. and Terry L. Lucas, of Roanoke; Machinist's Mate First Class Howard E. Lucas, USN; Chief Petty Officer Lawrence C. Lucas, USN; Seaman First Class Douglas C. Lucas, USN; and Burrel F. Lucas, U. S. naval cadet. Also three sisters, Mrs. J. S. Booker, Mrs. Leo Williams, and Miss Cecilia Lucas, all of Roanoke. on April 8, 1945.7
