Born Saturday, July 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Ernest Terrell Smith and Emma Gertrude Williams Smith. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a corps man from 1944 to 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1949 to 1952. He also served with the Lynchburg Life Saving and First Aid Crew for a number of years. On June 6, 1953, he and Naomi Vine Brooks were married in College Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. J.J. Bowman. He was a faithful and dedicated member of College Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons and was treasurer of the board. He was also treasurer of his Sunday school class, the Fellowship Bible Class. He had also served on the finance committee and the property committee at various times through the years. Tommy was proud of his profession, retiring from the Lynchburg Fire Department in 1981 as a Battalion Chief after an exemplary career spanning 32 years. He was a charter member of the original Local 1146 of the International Association of Fire Fighters and a proud Honorary Member of the Lynchburg Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1146. He was also a long-standing member of the Virginia State Fire Fighters Association and was a member of the Lynchburg Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Fire Fighters. He enjoyed telling stories of his many experiences to younger fire fighters and proudly supported them, the Fire Department and the Fire Fighters Association. Tommy was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was most happy when he was with his family celebrating special occasions. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports, especially baseball, which was his favorite sport. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Malvin Terrell Smith; and three sisters, Margurite Frances Smith, Dorothy May Smith Fitzgerald and Lois Gertrude Smith McFaden. Surviving are his wife Naomi; one son, Anthony Vern Smith and his wife, Sharon; one daughter, Angela Vine Smith Price; two grandsons, James Stephen Price Jr. and Eric Thomasson Price, and their father, James Stephen Price. Memorial contributions may be made to College Hill Baptist Church-Building Fund, 1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501; or Lynchburg Fire and EMS Foundation-(Designate for Lynchburg Fire Dept. Pipes and Drums), P.O. Box 2327, Lynchburg, VA 24505. A celebration of Tommy's life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at College Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Andrew Grose officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, May 28, 2008, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Loretta is survived by her children, Alice White, Brenda Shortt (Mark), Dawn Yeary (Larry), Clifford and Eric Kern; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as a host of beloved and devoted nieces and nephews. Loretta will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and administration of York Convalescent and Rehab for the care and comfort provided to our loved one. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their assistance and abundant kindness in caring for our mother. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. on March 26, 2017.8

He was the loving husband of Dianne Hunt Williams for 48 years. Born on September 11, 1944, in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of the late Ernest "Jack" Williams and the late Eula Cumbie Williams. Clarence proudly served his country from 1962 to 1966 in the United States Air Force. He completed his undergraduate degree in Business and his Master's degree in Administration from Lynchburg College. He retired as the Plant Controller from Archer Creek Foundry with over 35 years of service. Clarence was a member of Union Christian Church in Madison Heights, Va. Clarence enjoyed meeting with and talking to his friends over breakfast and lunch. Clarence was a collector, especially of World War II memorabilia. His greatest joys in life were his family and watching his grandchildren in their many activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Calvin Lynwood Williams. In addition to his wife, Dianne Williams, he is survived by his sons, Eddie Williams and wife, Annie, and Billy Williams and wife, Lisa; four grandchildren, Parker, Owen, Walker and Cora Williams; sister, Gaynell "Sally" Schalk; in-laws, Billy and Edna Hunt; and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Jim Freeman and Pastor Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family requests that you to consider the Amherst County Humane Society or Union Christian Church. Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the Williams famiy. on July 4, 2018.4
