W. Strickler on Riverside Drive in Welch for Mr. Strickler's mother, Mrs. Harriet E. Strickler, 78, highly esteemed resident of Iaeger who died at her daughter's home there early Tuesday morning after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Strickler had lived in McDowell county for the past 30 years, and was one of the most prominent and well-liked women in this entire section. She was born in Floyd county, Va., on September 7, 1860. the daughter of Jonathan and Mahala Conner. She was reared and educated in Floyd county, and on February 27, 1878, she was married to Samuel Homer Strickler, of Carper Hill (should be Copper Hill), Floyd county. They resided In that community for many years, moving with their family to McDowell county in 1907. Mrs. Strickler died In July of 1930. Mrs. Strickler was a member of the Primitive Baptist church for sixty years. She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Iaeger, Mrs. John T. Parker of Iaeger, Mrs. J. F. Simpson of Superior, Mrs. Bob Mullins of Oak Hill, Mrs. Graham Christian of Sciotovllle, O., J. W. Strickler, prominent coal operator of Welch; Warfield Strickler of Home Creek, Va., E. F. Strickler of Page, Va., and V. T. Strickler of Squire. A brother, Bob Conner, resides in Roanoke, Va. The services today will be in charge of Rev. R. H. Ballard, Methodist pastor at Iaeger, with burial following In the Iaeger Memorial cemetery at Roderfield. Pallbearers will be grandsons of the deceased, including: J. W. Parker, J. C. Strickler, Herman Simpson, Elbert Christian, Strickler Mullins, Sam Mullins, Robert Mullins, James Johnson and J. T. Carter. Flower bearers will be granddaughters of Mrs. Strickler. The body was removed to the Strickler home in Welch Tuesday afternoon to lie in state until the hour of the services today. on January 12, 1938.7

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd. He was a long standing member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the son of the late Ridgely C. Cox and Louise Gibson Cox. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Georgia E. Cox of Christiansburg; son, Michael Cox of Napa, Calif; grandson, Marshall Cox; cousins in Maryland and Colorado; brother-in-law and spouse, Daniel "Bud" and Sylvia Epperly of Huffville; sisters-in-law, L.Z. Wimmer of Salem, Kate King of Floyd, Jane McKee of Tampa, Fla; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Goodpasture officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Victor Iddings and Beatrice Mills Iddings; his brother, William Iddings; sister, Jackie Iddings Sheaff and brother- in-law, William Sheaff, along with his daughter, Lisa. Charles served in the United States Navy abroad The USS Conyngham, DDG-17 as an electrician during Vietnam from 1963 through 1965; he also worked for the Centers for Disease Control 1965 through 1994; and ending his work for the Public Health Service at the state of New Mexico 1995 through 2005. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Santa Fe National Cemetery. on January 29, 2014.2
