Maxey, and Floyd T. Maxey, Virginia Beach; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke Chapel, on Franklin Road. The Rev. Gene Arnold and the Rev. Michael Ward will officiate. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 22, 2002 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. on September 22, 2002.1

Previously he had farmed near there and had spent practically his entire life in the vicinity. He was a member of Asbury Methodist Episcopal church. Surviving are two sons, Charles of South Vienna, William of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. William Harness of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, and nine grandchildren. Burial will be made at Mt. Sterling, Ohio. on March 18, 1927.4

Gowen, one of the oldest and best known engineers of this place, died in Clifton Forge Hospital Tuesday afternoon, after an operation for liver trouble. Mr. Gowen was 48 years of age and was a native of Amherst county, Va. He was an excellent citizen and had resided in Hinton for 25 years. He was the step-father of Messrs. O. H. and Frank Cundiff, and Mrs. C. H. Hetzel, of this place, who with his wife survive him. He was prominent in the B. of L. E., and carried insurance to the amount of $5,000. He was buried here today after funeral services from the 1st Baptist church conducted by Rev. J. P. Campbell. His death is a matter of public regret. on June 1, 1905.11
