Upon graduation from Christiansburg High School in 1949, he joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and served our Country in the military for 22 1/2 years retiring in 1973 earning the rank of SMSGT. He was stationed at Headquarters, United States Air Force, Europe, located at Lindsey Air Station, Wiesbaden, Germany, and United States Air Force Ramstein Air Base, Germany, while also being deployed to Italy and Vietnam. He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam by Brigadier General Bryce Poe for meritorious service while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in military operations against an opposing armed force in Vietnam from July 8, 1969, to July 8, 1970. Prior to his departure from Vietnam, he was also awarded the Vietnamese Air Force Medal for his advice and assistance to them during the same period. He received many other awards and commendations during his military career for his dedication in his service to our Country. Early in his military career, he served one tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force Recruiting Station in Roanoke, Va. He was a very friendly, giving, loving, kind, and generous person. He was a life long member of Cambria Baptist Church. After retiring from the USAF, he moved back to Christiansburg and worked as custodian at the Church for many years. He loved his Lord, his Church, his job, and the many friendships he made there over the years. Words cannot express our family's thanks and appreciation to the staff at The Crossings At Blacksburg and to Medi Home Health and Hospice staff and volunteers for their excellent tender loving care, kindness, and compassion shown to Bob while a patient in the Harmony Square Memory Care section at The Crossings. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the Dallas Cowboys, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. He then went to work for Rowan Controller for a few years before going to Black and Decker for 15 years. He was a member of Westminster Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Billy Joe Eanes of Camden, Del; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Judy Eanes of Westminster; daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Jim Evans of Tampa, Fla., Joyce and Barron Heiner of Westminster, and Sandy and John Green of Millersville, MD; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dorcus Eanes of Salem, VA; sister, Cora Bandy of Roanoke, VA; twelve grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, three sisters and three great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.  on October 27, 2003.^1,14

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Farris Eanes; one son and daughter-in-law, George Gary and Brenda Eanes, Christiansburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Fred Cordrey, Charlotte, N.C; Joan Sexton, Dallas, Texas; Betty and Aubrey Dalton, Christiansburg; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Virginia Bell Eanes, Shawsville; brothers, Jack Eanes, Salem, Fred Eanes, Elliston, Joe Eanes, Westminister, Md; sisters, Arbritus Bayne, Shawsville, Annabell Smith, Christiansburg, Cora Abbott, Roanoke. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. on September 3, 1994.¹
