He was born in Check, Va., on November 2, 1930, son of the late Jesse and Myrtle Ferris. His brothers and his foster mother, Mary Poff, also preceded him in death. Mr. Ferris graduated from Check School in 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from August of 1950 until June of 1954. He worked in the hardware department at Graves-Humphreys, then Nelson Roanoke, retiring after 40 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 and1/2 years, Marie; children, Frank Jr., Mary Ellen, Robert, Joseph, and Dawn (a loving grandchild they raised). Also surviving are five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and the staff of Woodhaven Nursing Home for all they did for Frank. on December 13, 2015.2

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lee Ferris; and daughter, Mary Ellen Calkins. She is survived by her children, Frank Ferris, Jr., Robert Ferris, Joseph Ferris and wife Melanie, Dawn O’Connor and husband Andrew. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodhaven Nursing Home for their continuous care for Marie over the past several years. Norman Ethelbert Elmore died on September 24, 2004 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 89.3,14,8,9,13,15 He Col. Norman E. Elmore, U.S. Army, Retired, 89, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, September 24, 2004. A native of Roanoke, he was the son of the late Bonnie Waldo and Mary Raines Elmore. He was a 1934 graduate of Jefferson High School and in 1959 earned a Bachelors degree in Military Science from the University of Maryland. He was employed in retail sales until his enlistment in the Army during World War II. He did enlisted service with the 116th Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. He commissioned in the Quartermaster Corps. In 1942 serving in logistics assignments in Richmond, and Washington, D.C. Upon completion of military service, he was employed with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. until recalled to active Army duty during the Korean War, serving on the Army General Staff, The Pentagon. He later held civilian assignments in Headquarters, Department of the Army, and the Defense Logistics Agency, Department of Defense, retiring in 1973 with the rank of Colonel. He was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, and the Reserve Officers Association, a Perpetual Member, The Military Order of the World Wars, a member of the 29th Division Association, Post 3 of the American Legion, and Lodge 197, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Norman also served on the Board of Directors of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation and was an Affiliated member of the 116th Infantry Regiment, "The Stonewall Brigade". In ceremonies at Fort Lee in July 1994 he was inducted as a Distinguished Member of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Regiment. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeannine Bousman and Mary Jane Overstreet. He was a long time member of Northview United Methodist Church, and more recently, a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Lucille W. Elmore; brother, Roger S. Elmore and wife Leah of Roanoke; sister, Annah Lee Crawford and a brother-in-law, Sherwood B. Bousman, both of Roanoke; children, Stephen W. Cottrell and wife Sharon of Troutville, Sharon Cottrell of Lynchburg, Deborah Woods and husband Richard of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kendra and Kameron Cottrell, Jennifer, Jessica and Jordyn Woods. Interment with military honors will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on September 25, 2004.3
