He was born in Dustin, Okla., on July 20, 1914, to Henry Marvin West Sr. and Mary Park West. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Virginia West Wilson. During World War II, West served in the Army with the 116th Infantry, 29th Division, that landed with “H” Company on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion of D-Day on June 6, 1944. He received two Bronze Stars. Surviving are his wife, Betty Aaron West of the home; one daughter, Mary West Branch of Bassett; two sons, Robert “Bob” Marvin West of Ridgeway and Stephen Dale West of Axton; one sister, Rosalie West Spraker of Mount Airy, N.C; and four grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services from noon until time for the service Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3907, Martinsville, Va. 24115. on October 21, 2008.2
