Homemakers; Member of the Farm Bureau Women's Committee and served as a Voting Delegate to the 1998 Annual State Farm Bureau Convention; Member of Daughters of the Confederacy. She was retired from Floyd Garment. Mrs. Sowers loved people and will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Oscar B. (Tom) Sowers , Floyd; four step-children, Neil Sowers , Roanoke, Steve Sowers , Hillsville, Junior Sowers , Floyd and Teresa Richardson, Hillsville; seven step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; one niece, Mrs. Donald (Brenda Slusher) Hylton, Floyd; several great and great-great nieces. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. on February 9, 1999.2

His favorite saying was “I am just me, Not a lot...just me.” Survivors include his father and stepmother, Robert and Hilga Poff of Huntsville, Ala; two sisters, Nancee Duke and husband, Gary, of Johnston City, Lonnette “Lonnie” Lindsey of Johnston City; stepbrother, Stephen Stamps of Paris, Tenn; nephew, Chris Duke of Johnston City; two nieces, Wendy Smith of Belleville, Elizabeth Lindsey of West Frankfort; two great-nephews, Thomas Duke of West Frankfort, Randy Gore of Arab, Ala; four great-nieces, Brenna Duke of West Frankfort, Avery and Campbell Smith of Belleville, Jessica Gore of Arab, Ala; two cousins, Paul Gore Jr. of Arab, Ala., Debbie Gore of Huntsville, Ala; uncle and aunt, Paul and Joyce Gore of Arab, Ala. Meyers of Phoenix, Az; her grandchildren, Mark Wood of Winston-Salem, N.C., Chad Meyers, Marilyn Phillips, Gail Smith, all of Phoenix, Az; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; her sister, Rachel Jordan of Roanoke County; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Red Hill Church of the Brethren, Friday, February 11, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ernie Deyerle and the Rev. Tony Emmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Amos Family Cemetery, Roanoke County. The family will receive friends Thursday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. on February 9, 2005.1

Compton of Blacksburg; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Clifford "Cliff" and Sherry Jones Compton of Christiansburg; two sisters and brother-in-law, Theda Webster of Christiansburg, and Dorothy Sue and Teddy Willis of Clover, S.C; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Sidney Compton of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Tera Kay Compton of Christiansburg, Sgt. Karen Elaine Compton of Ft. Irwin, Calif; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne is also survived by many friends and two special friends, Henery Garnard and Timmy Mills. Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Fork Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the nursing staff in the ICU of Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery for all the help and support during Wayne's illness. on September 9, 2015.1
