Melvin was loved and cherished by his girls, Marsha Ann Vest, Jessica Ann Link, Hope Nichole Howard, Emory Ann Clark and Avery Joe Link. He was a huge fan of NASCAR. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Ruby Woods Light; his children, Richard and Ruby Light of Albuquerque, N.M., Claralyn Holland of Cincinnati, Ohio, Judy and Douglas Pardue of Charleston, S.C., Melody Hurt of Roanoke, Va., Edward Light of Salem, Va., Cherrie and Barry Holland of Roanoke, Va; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel Light Mills of Salem, Va., and Christine Light Grisso of Roanoke, Va; and many loved nieces and nephews. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. The Rev. E.B. Shoemaker and the Rev. Horace Light will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011.
