Turner, daughter of Mary Turner, on June 23, 1885 at Floyd Co., Virginia.3 John Thrash West left a will on November 17, 1900; I, John T. West, Sr. of Copper Hill, Floyd County, Virginia, make this my last will. I give, devise and bequeath my estate and property real and personal as follows, that is to say, I give and devise to my wife Emma West all my land that lays South of a straight line from a point in the center of the main road opposite a Chestnut tree standing on the west side of the road between the barn and the ford of the river, about 50 yards south of the River, thence nearly on west ________ to where my line and P. B. Aldridge's line crosses the river, Mansion House situated over said described land also all the land on the east side of the Road. Barn situated on said land. Also all the timber land on the east side of the Main road leading from my house to Copper Hill as her right of dower to have and to hold for her own use as long as she lives. It is my will that all the balance of my land also all my personal Property be sold as soon after my death and upon such time as my Executors hereinafter named thinks best and out of the proceeds of the sale first pay all my debts and burial expense and cost of executing this My will including the Executors Pay as hereinafter specified then take one third of the net proceeds and put it out on interest, or keep it on interest as long as my wife Emma West lives the interest to be collected anuly by My Executors and paid to my wife Emma West for her own use then it is my wish that my Executor pay my first oldest children $40.00 a piece, that is, I give John T. West, Jr. forty dollars, Rosina Allis Burnett forty dollars, Stanton R. West forty dollars, Mary L. Sowder forty dollars and William J. West forty dollars in consideration of their Mothers interest in my land then divide the Balance equally between all my ten children. Then it is my will that at the death of my wife Emma West that my Executors sell the balance of my land that is the land left her as her dower or such time as they think best and collect the amount that is on interest and divide it equally between my ten children, but if my wife Emma West at my death would rather have the interest on one third of the net proceeds from the sale of all my land and property than to have the use of the land I have allotted to her then it is my will that all my land and property be sold and that my Executors take one third of the net proceeds of the sale and put it on interest during the lifetime of my wife Emma West and collect the interest anualy and pay it to my wife Emma West for her own use and take the balance on the other two thirds and Distribute it between my children as herein_____ stated in this my will and at the death of my wife collect the amount that is out on interest and divide it equally between my Ten Children. I nominate and appoint John T. West, Jr., Stanton R. West, Wm. J. West and Walter R. West as my Executors to this my will all or any two of them can act as Executor and it is my will that they be not required to give security as Executors nor may Property appraised it is my will that my Executors sell my land without any decree of Court and convey the title to the purchaser and that my Executors shall have fifty dollars for their trouble of executing this my will to be divided equally between those that act as executors. Aldridge was probably Pinkney B. Aldridge (1852-1916) and M. J. Aldridge was probably Pinkney's brother, Milton Jefferson Aldridge (1851-1911). Pinkney and Milton were sons of Joseph L. Aldridge who was a brother to Mary Margaret Aldridge, the first wife of John T. West, Sr.8 He died on September 27, 1909 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 84.1,2,5
