Georgetta Susan "Etta" Kelley MRS. HUGH WOODS DEAD - Mrs. Hugh M. Woods of Old Point Comfort, VA, died very suddenly on Oct. 31, 1915, of heart failure at Newport News, VA, following a successful operation. Mrs. Woods before her marriage was Miss George Etta Susan Kelley, born Oct. 2, 1869 at New Castle, VA, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Kelley. Here she spent her childhood for the most part and in the early 90's was united in marriage to Hugh M. Woods, a native of Giles Co., soon thereafter removing to Old Point Comfort where she formed strong social ties, and where husband and wife happily reared their three daughters. Never, however, forgetting the old home and girlhood associates, she often returned to visit father and mother and to renew and strengthen the ties of other years. The remains reached here on Tuesday evening and at 10 AM Wednesday funeral services were held in the Christian Church, the Rev. L.L. Lloyd conducting the service. Miss Stella Reynolds rendered beautifully the Rosary and concluding the church service, the choir sang "Asleep in Jesus". The remains were then removed to West View Cemetery where the service was concluded. Beautiful floral tributes from friends in Washington, New York, Baltimore, Norfolk and Old Point Comfort, banked in profusion, mark her last resting place. 'Mid the scenic splendors of Autumn in a mountain home--she was laid to rest and thither, mother and father, ere life's shadows have lengthened into night, may go and spend a soul-refining hour. The active pallbearers were C.E. Smith, Max Craft, Rufus Caldwell, C.C. Jones, Ed Lee Walker, and Dr. L.L. Givens. Honorary bearers were Hugh Doss, Luther Caldwell, Hafford Barger, Ashby Jones, Howard Craft and Dr. B.R. Caldwell. The deceased is survived by her father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Boitnott of Mullins, WV and Mrs. John W. Moses of New Castle, and one brother, P.G. Kelley of Roanoke, VA. In her immediate family she leaves a husband and three daughters: Mrs. Levan Campbell of Ft. Williams, ME; Mrs. William Jackson of Savannah, GA; and Miss Clothida Woods of Old Point Comfort. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Boitnott, Mr. and Mrs. William Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. James Woods and son of Pearisburg, VA, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Elmore, Mr. Grant Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stapleton and son of Roanoke, Mrs. James Stevenson and daughter Clara of Mt. Sterling, KY.5 She was buried at West View Cemetery, New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.5 She was born on October 2, 1869 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.2,5 As of June 12, 1889,her married name was Woods.1 She married Major Hugh Meredith Woods on June 12, 1889 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.1,5,3,6 Georgetta Susan "Etta" Kelley died on October 31, 1915 at Elizabeth City, Virginia, at age 46.5,6
