He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Dorsey Rapp and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Albert Williams, also of Clifton Forge. Lt. Cmdr. (ret.) Williams served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He later was employed by the Department of Defense (Navy) with BUPERS in Washington, D.C. and for the Chief of Naval Education and Training in Pensacola, Fla. as the Head of Educational Research from 1965 to 1986. His active and reserve duty extended over a thirty-year period. Between his active military duty and subsequent Department of Defense career, he taught Math and Physics at Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Va., during which time he also served as the Science Supervisor for the Fairfax School System. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Shepard Williams, and daughter, Anne Shepard Williams of Roanoke. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Elaine Williams and their three children of Fairfax, Va; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Coy, and their daughter, of Covington, La; his son, Michael, also of Covington, La; and his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Louise Williams, and their two children, of Clifton Forge, Va. Ray was graduated from Lynchburg College with a B.S. in Math and Physics and from George Washington University with a Masters Degree in School Administration. Throughout his life he continued postgraduate studies and, because of his belief in continuing education, one of his many accomplishments was to develop a program for other Education Specialists in the Department of Defense to obtain advanced degrees. Ray kept in contact with many of his students, some of whom chose math and physics careers as a result of his influence. His lifelong association with students, colleagues and bridge players provided him with enjoyment throughout his interesting and eventful life.
Ray will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. on June 3, 1999.1

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Doretta "Ducky" Switzer, and his beloved Son Bruce Clinton "Clint" Switzer Jr. He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad: Virginia and Les Switzer; brother, John W. Switzer; mother-in-law, Mary L. Linkous; brothers-in-law: George Winter and Hugh Henderson. In addition to his wife and son, surviving are sisters: Dollie Henderson and Peggy (Jimmy) Robertson; brother, Leslie A. (Karen) Switzer Jr; sister-in-law, Sandra Winter; nieces: Doretta Winter, Dawn Winter Ware, Chastity Spence, and Emilee Lauer; nephews: Turman Henderson, Leslie Henderson, and Todd Robertson; special brother-like friend, Raymond Whitlock; and his special dog, Pooh Bear, who kept up with him. Bruce was a faithful member of 50 plus years at Troutville Baptist Church in Troutville, and a faithful member of T.E.L. Sunday School Class. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and retired from Elizabeth Arden. A graveside service with military honors will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday May 5 at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1981 Caldwell Mountain Road, New Castle, Virginia with Reverend Carol Johnston officiating. Edith Jane Ferrel was buried at Huffman Memorial Park (also known as Chestnut Grove Church Cemetery), Craig Co., Virginia.1 She was born on February 28, 1932 at Greenbrier Co., West Virginia.2 She married Thurman Dale "Tump" Ruble, son of Terry Virgil Ruble and Leota Ethel Caldwell, on December 21, 1957 at Craig Co., Virginia.2,3,1,4 As of December 21, 1957,her married name was Ruble. Edith Jane Ferrel died on June 29, 2006 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 74.1,5 She Edith Jane Ferrel Ruble, 74, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Martin and Ressie Paxton Ferrel. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thurman D. Ruble; daughters and son-in-law Sandra J. Ruble and Linda and Raymond Reynolds; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Leonard Stewart; sister-in-law, Ida Mae Wallace; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Huffman Memorial Park with Dr. Ernie Johnson officiating. Family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Craig County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 81, New Castle, Va. 24127, or the New Castle Volunteer Fire Department, New Castle. Arrangements by Paitsel Funeral Home. on July 1, 2006.1

Ressie M. Paxton died on June 8, 1993 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia, at age 92.1,2 She FERREL, Ressie Paxton, 92, of New Castle, died in her home June 8, 1993. She was the daughter of the late William I. Paxton and Ruby Lucas Paxton, and was preceded in death by six sisters. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Edith Jane and Thurman Ruble; granddaughter, Sandra J. Ruble; granddaughter and husband Linda and Raymond Reynolds all of New Castle; one niece, Bessel White, Hardy. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. James Bayne and Dr. Ernie Johnson officiating. Interment at Huffman Family Cemetery. The family request contributions be made to Craig County Rescue Squad EMS, in lieu of flowers. on June 9, 1993.1
