She spent her nursing career in private duty nursing except for short periods of surgical nursing at the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Chicago. Her private duty nursing was in Richmond, Va., Chicago, Ill., and Greeneville. While in Chicago, many of her cases were with Dr. Clark Huggins, who won a Nobel Prize for extensive research in prostate cancer. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents: Cecil B. and Anna Brown Butler; her first husband of 53 years: William Bruffie Connor; her second husband of eight years: William Doak Ramsey; her daughter: Elizabeth Jane Connor; and two brothers: Minnis C. Butler and James A. Butler. She is survived by a stepdaughter and her husband: Ella and Gary Durr of Mansfield, Texas; and special friends: Dr. Walter “Skip” Mason and Carolyn Isaacs. She wrote: “Many thanks to my special daughter; even though she was a step, she was my love as well as her husband, Ella Joyce Ramsey Durr and Gary Durr.” on March 14, 2017.3

He is survived by a very special sister-in-law, Lena McAlexander and husband, Archie; as well as numerous other sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by special neighbors, Lewis and Dorothy Meredith, and other special friends and neighbors. The family wishes to thank the Christiansburg Rescue Squad for their compassion and service, and the physicians and staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital for their care and many kindnesses. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. on October 12, 2007.3

Hutchens, an infant brother and sisters Pemel Lilly, Viada Lilly, Delores Barton, and Reva Hewitt. Those left to cherish his memory are daughters Sharon Hutchens Lowe of Poca, WV, Sandra Hutchens Nichols and Melissa Hutchens Lilly of Graniteville, SC, sons Edward L. Hutchens of Lexington, KY and Russell R. Hutchens of Demorest, GA, sisters Alice Delp of Beckley, WV, and Christalee Lynn of Salem, VA, brothers Roy Hutchens and John Hutchens of Waynesboro, VA, 13 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. At Mr. Hutchens request he will be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date at the family cemetery. on July 8, 2016.6

     Alice Mary May Hutchens Alice M. Hutchens Delp age 90 of Beckley, WV passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 in Columbia, SC. Born on February 17, 1929 at Dunns, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Hutchens and Lelia Laverna Conner Hutchens. Mrs. Delp was a former employee of Maidenform in Princeton, WV, and later devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was a graduate of Spanishburg High School in 1947, and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mrs. Delp enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts in her spare time. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Alfred Delp, by sisters: Viada (Lincoln) Lilly, Pemel (Joe) Lilly, Reva (Paul) Hewitt, Dolores (James) Barton; brothers: Charles Vernon Hutchens, Roy (Jean) Hutchens, and Ellsworth(Eva) Hutchens. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her Children: Susan Delp of Columbia, SC, Kimberly Elkins and husband Dan of Columbia, SC, David Delp and wife Susan of Cool Ridge, WV, and Alfred Delp and wife Tisa of Manning, SC. Grandchildren: Zachery and Tyler Elkins of Columbia, SC, Jonathan Delp and wife Elisabeth of Lexington, SC, David Andrew Delp and wife Christy of Grandview, WV, Joseph Elkins of Columbia, SC, and Tesa Bontrager and husband David of Eagle River, WI; Great-grandchilden: Madison, Riley Grace, Matthew Parker Delp, Baylor Delp (and sibling on the way), Bethalyn, Lily and Lance Bontrager; a great-great grandchild, Malakai Bontrager. Surviving siblings: John Hutchens and wife Janice of Waynesboro, VA, and Christalee Lynn and husband Chuck of Salem, VA. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday March 14, 2019 at noon. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.6 She was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert Centre Byrd Drive, Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.6 She was born on February 17, 1929 at Camp Creek, Mercer Co., West Virginia.4,5,6 As of July 27, 1957,her married name was Delp.5 She married Alfred Elmer Delp Sr. on July 27, 1957 at Gary, McDowell Co., West Virginia.1,7,5,6,10 Alice Mary May Hutchens died on March 10, 2019 at Columbia, Richland Co., South Carolina, at age 90.6
