Born July 19, 1937, in Bassett, he was a son of the late Jesse Carl Foster and Beatrice Lura Poff Foster. Also preceding him in death were his sister, Frances Louise Foster and a brother, Lynwood C. Foster. He retired from J.D. Bassett Mfg. Company after 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Bassett High School, a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church, the VMI Keydet Club, was a former member of Bassett Kiwanis Club and Ducks Unlimited, and served in the Virginia National Guard. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Anne Miles Foster; daughter, Anne Foster Sebastian and son-in-law, Gregory Allen Sebastian of Burlington, N.C; son, Chad Douglas Foster and daughter-in-law, Susan Cosby Foster of Fairfax; granddaughter, Taylor Paige Sebastian of Burlington, N.C; and brother, Wildon C. Foster of Bassett. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Meredith officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 408, Bassett, Va. 24055, American Heart Association, Attn: Memorial Gift Chairman, P.O. Poff; grandchildren Griffin, Bryson and Caiman; nephew, Jim Arnold and his wife, Brandy of Collinsville, VA, and their children: Jake, Maggie and Carson; and sisters, Janice Miller and her husband, Henry of Tazwell, VA, and Nancy Arnold and her husband, David of Elkin, NC. The family will receive friends at the Church from 5 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, until time for a Rosary to be prayed at 6 p.m. on March 20, 2010.2

Leona Farmer Young Leona Farmer Young Poff, born January 5, 1920, received her heavenly wings on Saturday, January 16, 2021. She was able to celebrate her 101st birthday with her family. She was the last surviving daughter of the late Jesse and Lura Young of Ferrum. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, William P. "Bill" Poff; brothers and sisters, Ruth (Russell) Joyce, Myrtle (Bill) McGee, Wayne (Fannie Jane) Young, Bernice (Letcher) Mullins, Hildreth Young, Frances (Stafford) Witt, Dennis (Mildred) Young, and Navie Young. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and greats. She will be greatly missed by her very special great niece Lindsey Gayle and dog Frehley. Special thanks to her care giver Charles Young.
