He was a graduate of Northside High School Class of 1970 and retired from VDOT. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Byrd and Nova Francisco and Gratton and Neva Wells, as well as his parents, Eldred "Pete" Francisco and Louise Wells. He is survived by his ex-wife and devoted friend of 40 years, Gale Francisco; stepson, Jarrett Weeks (Candy); stepdaughter, Christy Wilkerson (Troy); beloved grandchildren, Alexis Wright, Madison Weeks, and Cadence Wilkerson; beloved great-grandchildren, Braedon "Brae" Francisco and Vanessa Wright; a sister who he loved very much, Karen Lee (Ricky); nephew, Matthew Lee (Katie); great-nephew, Evan Lee; great-niece, Anson Lee; niece, Mary-Kathryn Bailey (Ryan); great-nieces, Reagan and Olivia Bailey; uncle, Ellis Wells (Betty); aunt, Marie Campbell, as well as numerous cousins. He also leaves behind a caring and gracious friend and fishing buddy, Ronnie Bryson (Nita), and caring friend, Don Campbell (Tammy). Thanks Ronnie and Nita for your support and for being there so many times when he needed you. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Troy Mays officiating. The family would also like to thank Dr. William "Craig" Mitchell for his thirty plus years of ongoing service and care, as well as the ER and Cardiac ICU staff at Lewis Gale who were kind and caring in his final moments. We would also like to thank the staff at Carvin's Cove boat landing who he enjoyed working with after his retirement.⁴ He was buried at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 5070 Cove Road N. Gerald Eugene Conner Gerald E. "Jerry" Conner, 73, of Farmingdale passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center surrounded by his family. Jerry was born and raised in Troutville, VA before settling in Farmingdale in 1972. Jerry had a successful career in the insurance industry for over 30 years and was the co-owner of First Jersey Insurance Company in Freehold. Jerry enjoyed bowling at the Howell and Ocean Lanes and he was instrumental in launching Parker Bohn III's career as a very successful professional bowler. Jerry was active in his community enjoying his many hobbies. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Howell Elks Lodge #2515, and a member of the Ocean Lodge #89, F. & A. M. Jerry had a very successful career racing the #45 street stock car for many years at Wall Stadium. He enjoyed sharing racing with his two sons and most recently owned Kodie Conner Racing in NC and loved watching Kodie race. Other hobbies included softball, bowling, traveling, coin collecting, and playing the lottery. He spent most mornings with his granddaughter Madison, buying scratch-off lottery tickets. Above all Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring Pop-Pop. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth J. Conner; and his brother, Wayne A. Conner. Jerry is survived by two sons, Pride Conner and his wife, Beth of Howell; and Shannon Conner and his wife, Melissa of Kannapolis, NC; six grandchildren, Keryn Northerner, Carsin Conner, Madison Conner, Zak Conner, Kodie Conner, and Dakota Conner; and two nieces, Tracy Huffman and Tina Bonds; numerous other nieces and nephews; and his business partner and brother-in-arms, Frank Reilly.⁶ He was born on August 19, 1943 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,5,9 He married Ruth Janice Zeutenhorst on May 30, 1970 at Troutville, Botetourt Co., Virginia.^3,10 Gerald Eugene Conner married Ruth Janice Zeutenhorst on February 4, 1983 at Clark Co., Nevada.¹¹ Gerald Eugene Conner died on June 20, 2017 at Neptune, Monmouth Co., New Jersey, at age 73.^6,9

State Police Capt. John W. Burrow said Yates was being taken to Floyd in Phipps' patrol car after being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving at Locust Grove. The prisoner apparently tried to escape, Burrow said, and Phipps stopped the car to handcuff him. During the struggle the trooper was injured on the head and neck and Yates was fatally wounded with one shot. Phipps was released after being treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. on May 31, 1965.⁴

Preceded in death by her parents Kelly and Edith Steele, her brother and sister-in-law Clinton and Linda Steele, beloved husband GW Yates, and son Calvin Yates. She is survived by daughters Angie Muncy (Josh), Donna Wood (Dexter), sons Willie (Jen) Yates, and Kenny (Stephanie) Yates. Grandchildren Amanda (Jeremy) Cluxton, Tyler (Sarah) Wood, Abbey Yates (Phillip Burnett), Taylor Wood (Calvin Weddle), Presley Yates, Sierra Muncy, Hannah (Brent) Thompson, Olivia Yates, Aiden Yates and Karly Yates along with beloved great grandson Gentry. She is also survived by brother Frank Steele (Pam) and many special nieces, nephews, friends and family. Helen was an Elementary School teacher for many years in the Roanoke Valley. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Robert “Bobby” Link; and son, Gary “Dean” Link. Helen is survived by her sister, Laura Eugenia Yates Link; daughter, Anita Kaye Giles; granddaughters, Dana Marie Rowland (Buddy), Jessica Lynn Perdue (Logan); four great grandchildren, Zoe Lynn Rowland, Owen Michael Rowland, Rieker Oakley Perdue, and Xander Rhett Perdue.
