Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Lindsy R. and Barbara Austin of Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Judy A. and Larry Atkinson of Elliston; grandchildren, Ronnie Austin, Austin, Texas, Cheryl Austin, Roanoke, Sonya Austin, Elliston, Rhonda Martin, Don Joe and Shawna Hall, all of Christiansburg; stepgrandchildren, Mike and Laura Henry, Clermont, Fla., Scott and Julie Henry, Ashburn, Ken White, Savannah, Ga., Lorrie and Tim Earp, Charlotte, N.C; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Yvette Martin and Amber Hall, Christiansburg, Hannah Austin, Elliston; stepgreat-grandchildren, Alden and Abby Henry, Clermont, Fla., Christopher and Matthew Henry, Ashburn; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd with the Rev. William R. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home. on March 13, 2000.1

Mr. Vest was born on December 22, 1922, in Fayetteville, W.Va., to William Arthur and Nettie Mae Gearheart Vest, who preceded him in death. He was a decorated World War II veteran and served honorably in the Medical Corps of the United States Army in Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Mr. Vest is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Wanda Elizabeth Whitenack Vest; his children and their spouses, Carol Vest Jackson, Robert Bery and Mary Vest, and John David and Cheryl Vest. He will also be greatly missed by eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Iddings Cemetery at the intersection of Daniel's Run Road and Huffville Road in the Terry's Fork Community. The Reverend Matthew Kirkland will be conducting the service. Military rites will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans of the Roanoke Valley. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stonewall Fellowship Food, c/o Wendy Gruver, 7565 Floyd Highway North, Copper Hill, Va. 24079. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, Va. on March 19, 2009.6

They were blessed with three daughters & sons-in-law, Karla & Clay Moran, Amy & Matt Graziani, and Megan & Jason Nichols. Also surviving are his eight treasured grandchildren, Zane and Luke Moran, Kayla, Conner, Callie, and Cara Graziani, and Paige and Leeah Nichols; his brother & sister-in-law, Jack and Donna Simmons; his “Conner Kin”; and many friends who enjoyed his sense of humor. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Geneva Simmons. During his lifetime, Bob served in the Army Reserves, as a Deacon, and as a Gideon. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Juanita Price Hall; three daughters, Pat Bauer and Jo Denton, both of Christiansburg, and Martha Yates of Gordonsville, Va; a sister, Mrs. Dennis (Blake) Whitlock of Shawsville; 12 grandchildren, Anthony Joseph Hall, Elizabeth B. Christian, Susan B. Roop, Rhonda H. Trump, DonJo Hall, Megan Hall, Leslie Shannon Hall, Dwayne Yates, Scott Yates, Candi Y. Lawhorn, Chris Denton and Stacy D. Sutphin; 22 great-grandchildren.
