Donald Lee Lucas Donald Lucas, May 27, 1942 - Jul 31, 2020. July 31, 2020 Donald Lee Lucas, of Moneta, was raised into the glory of his maker, but will be missed by those he left behind. Don is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Clay Lucas, mother, Dora Madeline Lucas (née Peters), and brother, Lawrence Cecil Lucas, known as LC to his childhood friends. He is survived by his twin brother, Douglas Charles (Darlene) Lucas, of Fredericksburg, VA. Left behind to honor his memory is his wife of 45 years, Judith Diane Lucas (née Reedy), his 7 children, Pamela (David) Booth, Dori Lucas, Tammi Johnson, Melissa Lucas, Matthew (Becky) Lucas, Mark (Amy) Lucas, and Micah (Alicia) Lucas, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Don enjoyed a special relationship with two of his nephews, Douglas Charles Lucas, Jr, known as Little Doug to his affectionate family, and Michael Bailey. He leaves behind many other special cousins, nieces, and nephews, too many to name. Don was born in Roanoke, VA, May 27, 1942, where he attended Monroe Junior High School and Jefferson Senior High School. He graduated in 1960. Throughout his school career, he played and marched in the band, which created many memories he cherished for the rest of his life. He and his twin brother played brass and were drum majors their junior and senior year. In 1960 the Jefferson Senior High School Marching Band was featured at the Gator Bowl, where Don and Doug led the Magicians onto the field in what many recount as a spectacular show. Don served his country as both an enlisted man and officer in the US Army and Army Reserves throughout the 1960’s and 70’s. In Roanoke, Don was a respected plumbing and HVAC contractor who worked much of Southwest VA from 1979 until his retirement. Throughout his life, Don was an avid outdoorsman and hunter/conservationist who knew the forests of Southwest Virginia as well as anyone. Don met his future wife, Judy, on the day she first came home from the hospital in February of 1951 (they were neighbors). They reunited in 1970 and were married on July 3, 1975, a mere 23 years after that first meeting. Since then, Don and Judy have been a matched set that have weathered more than 45 years of marriage with a grace and charm that set an example for many. In his retirement, Don was a doting grandfather who was as proud of his grandchildren as any man could possibly be.5 He was born on May 27, 1942 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,4,5 He married Sherry Jean Cadd on January 22, 1965 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.2 Donald Lee Lucas and Sherry Jean Cadd were divorced on April 14, 1975 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.3 Donald Lee Lucas married Judith Diane Reedy on July 3, 1975.5 Donald Lee Lucas died on July 31, 2020 at Virginia at age 78.5
