Dorothy Marie Lucas was buried at Saint Andrews Cemetery, 3601 Salem Turnpike NW, Roanoke, Virginia.4,8 She Dorothy Thomas (85) of Roanoke joined her Lord and Savior on 4/27/2014, her joy is complete. She was born in Roanoke to the late Myrtle Mae and William Lucas. Also preceding her in the journey, was her one and only sweetheart for over 67 years, A. Victor Thomas. They were a mere 15/16 years old at a party when he asked her if she liked his new sport coat. She replied "it looks like a horse blanket". He later asked to walk her home with that "horse blanket" on her shoulders. A year later they were married! Dorothy endured many losses, and many of God's blessings. There's a sweet reunion in Heaven today with all of the following family who passed before her: Vic Thomas Jr, her firstborn son and Keith Johnson, her son-in-love. Grandchildren: Erica Rae Thomas, Cole Patrick Thomas, Samuel Ellis Thomas. Mother-in-Law and Father-in-law: Genevieve Nero Thomas and Ellis James Thomas Sr.. Brothers and Sister: William Gerald Lucas, Billy Lucas and Betty Lucas. Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: M. Patrick and Lourice Thomas, Bette C. Thomas, E.J. (Buddy) Thomas and Ronald Thomas. Dorothy is survived by her Children: W. Eric Thomas and Robin A. Thomas, Gen Thomas Johnson and Thomas P. Thomas. Grandchildren: Bradley V. Thomas and Ashley Williams, Andrew L. Johnson, Will B. Thomas, Elizabeth (Lilly) G. Thomas and grandchildren-in-love George and Natalie Smith. Sister and Brothers-in-Law: David M. Thomas and Joan S. Thomas, Byron and Robin Thomas, Genevieve June Thomas, L. Eugene Thomas, Nancy Thomas and Shirley Lucas. Dot also left behind many wonderful loving Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and lifelong friends and customers. Dorothy wanted to say "I love you" and thank you to a few special friends who made her journey peaceful and always cared for her needs: Isabel Martinez, Annette and James Trussell, and Joyce Brown. Dorothy was beautiful and strong. She was an amazing wife and mother. She consistently gave 110%, and held her family close to her heart. Dorothy was a prayer warrior, with a fierce love for her Lord. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church for over 65 years. She treasured the Love of Christ, beauty and reverence of St. Andrews Catholic Church. She appreciated and loved Monsignor Miller and his commitment to our Lord and Faith. Dorothy was a beautiful Drum Majorette at William Byrd H.S. in the 40's. She dreamed of being a dancer. Dorothy was pioneer for women in management. She ran E.J. Thomas Market for over 55 years. She never failed to get the job done, "can't" was not in her vocabulary. Her energy was amazing, she managed to raise 4 children, run a business, and keep the house clean. Any free moment she found was spent with Vic or the children, she never took time for herself. Dot encouraged Vic to stay in politics, she believed in him and the changes he could make in the lives of Virginians, and he got the job done. Many constituents came in the store to express their concerns, needs and thanks to both Dot and Vic. They were a true team since being married on 11/25/46. Dot always said she raised him; he always said he wouldn't last a week without her. Over the years they always enjoyed "taking a ride down the road" to the cabin in New Castle or to Richmond and always packing potted meat and crackers. Dot could talk family, politics, sports and business. No one could be a better partner, adviser and sounding board. She stayed abreast of everything. She could take one look at Vic or the children and knew what was wrong. Dorothy and Vic's love of God and family was the glue that that held the family together over the years, and always will. Vic and Dot engrained in their children to put God first, show respect, share what you have, and stick together. We will always miss our rock, her love, voice, strength, beauty and humor. We thank God for every precious moment he gave us with her. We give God all the glory for the gift of Dot and for His faith of things unseen, and hope for our glorious reunion someday. The Thomas Family would like to express special gratitude to the caring staff at Blue Ridge Care, the loving staff at Gentiva Health Care, and much gratitude to the incredible, loving and amazing staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice. All of these loving organizations made a difference in her life. The interment will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery.8 She was born on November 5, 1928 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.2,3,4 As of November 25, 1946,her married name was Thomas.2 She married Alfred Victor Thomas Sr. on November 25, 1946 at Roanoke, Virginia.9,5,2,4,8,10 Dorothy Marie Lucas died on April 27, 2014 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 85.4,8
