Gearheart, son of George Washington Gearheart and Mary "Polly" Wilson, on July 28, 1890 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ As of July 28, 1890,her married name was Gearheart.¹ Nancy C.      Flora E. Spicer was buried at Mount Hope Church Cemetery, 61 Mount Hope Road, Carroll Co., Virginia.² She was born on January 22, 1875 at Wilkes Co., North Carolina.² As of October 28, 1891,her married name was DeWeese.¹ She married William Lee DeWeese, son of William Peter DeWeese and China Jane Muncy, on October 28, 1891 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Flora E. Spicer died on August 1, 1941 at Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., North Carolina, at age 66.²

     Orestees T. "Restee" "Rudy" Light was buried at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio.⁶ He was born on November 26, 1874 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,7,5,6 He married Laura B. Hall, daughter of Charles D. "Charlie" Hall and Adeline F. Spangler, on January 9, 1894 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Orestees T. "Restee" "Rudy" Light died on January 12, 1952 at age 77.⁶

     Cora Luvinia Terry was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.³ She was born on January 25, 1875 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.³ As of June 13, 1895,her married name was Fitzwater.¹ She married Jonathan Charles "John" Fitzwater on June 13, 1895 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Cora Luvinia Terry married Thomas Gustavis "Tom" Terry, son of Peter Terry and Mahala Jane Radford, on December 21, 1906 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.⁵ Cora Luvinia Terry Funeral services for Mrs. Cora L. Terry, 91, Alpoca, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the Sam Foglesong Chapel in Mullens with the Rev. Lonnie Blankenship, Corinne, in charge. Burial will be Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Mrs. Terry died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital. Born in Virginia, Jan. 25, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Martha Jane Gillenwater. She was a member of the Salem, Va. Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, George Fitzwater, Alpoca, James Fitzwater, Carbondale and O. T. Terry, Danville, Va; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Altizer, Salem and Mrs. Mahalia Toney, Flushing, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. The body is at the Sam Foglesong, Nease and Nealy Funeral Home in Mullens where friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday. on March 13, 1966.³ She died on March 15, 1966 at Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 91.³

     Jonathan Charles "John" Fitzwater was born on October 17, 1852 at Nicholas Co., West Virginia.¹ He married Cora Luvinia Terry, daughter of Andrew Jackson "Jack" Terry and Martha Jane Gillenwater, on June 13, 1895 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹

     Alonzo Grant Hearn was buried at Resthaven Memorial Park, 1917 West Main Street, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹² He was born on March 10, 1863 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.^8,12 He married Elsie D. Kirby before June 6, 1892.¹³ Alonzo Grant Hearn and Elsie D. Kirby were divorced before February 5, 1896.⁸ Alonzo Grant Hearn married Emma E. Ramey on February 5, 1896 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.⁸ Alonzo Grant Hearn died on November 28, 1938 at Logan, Logan Co., West Virginia, at age 75.¹²

     Emma E. Ramey was buried at Resthaven Memorial Park, 1917 West Main Street, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.^2,4 She was born on December 22, 1878 at Louisa, Lawrence Co., Kentucky.^5,2,3 As of February 5, 1896,her married name was Hearn.¹ She married Alonzo Grant Hearn, son of Hon. James Hearn and Esther Catherine "Kate" DeWeese, on February 5, 1896 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Emma E. Ramey died on October 29, 1958 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 79.^2,3 She Mrs. Emma E. Hearn, 79, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Ivan of 125 Allen Ave. Mrs. Hearn, a resident of Beckley for the past 14 years, had been making her home with her daughter. She was born Dec. 22, 1878, at Louisa, Ky. She was a member of the Sprague Church of God. Survivors include five sons, Bernard of Philadelphia, Pa., Otis of Melbourne, Fla., Walter of Louisville, Ky., Charles of English, and Lawrence of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Ivan of Beckley, and Mrs. Leona Carey of Roanoke, Va; one brother, Charlie Ramey of Huntington; one sister, Mrs. Stella Beckett of Huntington; 34 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Webb and Neal Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. on October 30, 1958.³

     George Washington Chatting was buried at Christie Cemetery, Willowton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.⁶ He was born on November 24, 1876 at Mercer Co., West Virginia; His death record and gravestone have a birth date of Nov 24, 1874.^1,4,5,6 He married Maggie May Hobbs on February 24, 1897 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.^1,8 George Washington Chatting died on November 8, 1960 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 83.^8,5,6 He Funeral arrangements for G. W. Chatting, 85, of 402 Fifth St., Princeton, are incomplete. Chatting died Tuesday at 10:50 p.m. in a Princeton hospital as a result of injuries received when he was beaten and robbed early in the afternoon. Officers said Chatting was tending the furnace in the basement of White and White's Grocery at 3:45 p.m., when he was assaulted and robbed of about $4. He was a native of Willowton; a member of Princeton Old Guards and the First Christian Church. Surviving are four sons, Benton, Charleston; Earl, Salem, Va., Albert and Truman both of Princeton; three daughters, Mrs. Ferdinand Hale, Narrows, Va., Mrs. John DePaul, Long Island, N.Y., and Mrs. Calvin Belcher, Princeton. Chatting was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Hobbs Chatting. The body is at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton. on November 9, 1960.⁸ He A 32-year-old Stumpy Bottom (Princeton) man goes on trial in Mercer County Criminal Court at Princeton Monday, charged with murder in the fatal robbery-beating of an 85-year-old man last November. Samuel Peter Kanode is charged with fatally beating and robbing Princeton Old Guard member G. W. Chatting November 8 in the basement of a Princeton store where the old man was tending a furnace. State Police Sergeant Ed Guthrie said at the time that robbery apparently was the only motive and Kanode got only $1.50 from his victim. Chatting died in Memorial Hospital the night of November 8, following the afternoon beating the same day. He suffered critical head injuries. Sergeant Guthrie said Chatting was tending a furnace in the basement of White and White Grocery about 3:45 p.m. when he was assaulted and robbed. He died at 10:50 p.m. Guthrie, working with other troopers, Clyde White, then sheriff of the county, and Princeton police, charged Kanode less than 24 hours later. Kanode waived to the grand jury and was indicted last month when that group met. Polce also questioned a 17-year old girl who said she was an eyewitness to the crime. Criminal Court Judge Howard Al Jarrett has called for the petit jury to report Monday at 9:30 a. m., a t which time trial proceedings will begin. Court attaches said Saturday current indications are that the trial will be a "long, drawn-out affair," probably consuming most of the week. on February 5, 1961.⁹ He Samuel Peter Kanode, 32-year old Princeton man, Thursday was found guilty of first degree murder in the Nov. 8, 1960, fatal beating and robbery of G. W. Chatting, 85, of Princeton. The Mercer County Criminal Court jury of five women and seven men recommended mercy. The jurors received the case at 2:30 p.m. and deliberated two hours and one-half before returning the verdict. Kanode listened quietly to the verdict, raised his eyebrows, took a slow look at each of the jurors, then dropped his eyes. He gave his chair a shove backwards as he was escorted out of the courtroom. The verdict automatically carries a sentence of life in prison. The state had asked the death penalty. Defense attorneys moved that the verdict be set aside as contrary to law and evidence, and Judge Howard M. Jarrett set Feb. 20 as the date to hear the defense motion. Prosecuting Attorney W. O. Bivens Jr., end his assistant Bobby Holroyd, maintained that
Kanode followed Chatting into the basement of a store in Princston, where Chatting tended furnace, and fatally beat the old man, robbing him of $1.50. The state called the act a "vicious and malicious murder." The defense maintained that if Kanode is "guilty at all, the most he can be guilty of is manslaughter." The case opened Tuesday in Criminal Court at Princeton. on February 10, 1961.¹⁰

     Clara Cole was born in July, 1883 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.^1,2 As of December 31, 1901,her married name was Byrd.¹ She married Bruce Albert Byrd on December 31, 1901 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Clara Cole died before May 2, 1910; Her husband had remarried before the 1910 Census.³

     Bruce Albert Byrd was buried at Page Cemetery, Tazewell Co., Virginia.³ He was born on December 8, 1875 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,3,2 He married Clara Cole, daughter of Andrew Jackson Cole and Mary M. DeWeese, on December 31, 1901 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ Bruce Albert Byrd died on July 29, 1934 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 58.^3,2

     Virginia Marie Wickham was buried at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 5070 Cove Road N. W., Roanoke, Virginia.² She was born on March 13, 1923 at Floyd Co., Virginia.² As of June 8, 1940,her married name was Martin.³ She married Robert Wade 'Bob" Martin Sr. on June 8, 1940 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3,4 Virginia Marie Wickham died on September 6, 2009 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 86.^2,9 She Virginia Marie Wickham Martin, 86, of Roanoke, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 6, 2009. She was born in Floyd County March 13, 1923, daughter of the late Christian H. and Louise Conner Wickham. Her two brothers, Christian H. Wickham, Jr. and James W. Wickham, a sister, Sandra Darlene Wickham, and her son-in-law, Larry Skeens, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Martin retired from Lewis Gale Hospital after many years of service. She was a member of Rockingham United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Wade Martin, Sr; children, Robert Wade "Bobby" Martin, Jr., and his ex-wife, Dottie, of Thaxton, Billy Wayne Martin and his wife, Becky, of Blue Ridge, Patricia Martin Skeens, of Roanoke; five sisters, Christine Wickham Martin, Betty Wickham Stanley and husband, Coy, Mary Alice Wickham Smith, Nellie Ruth Wickham Mullins and husband, Eddie, Anne Wickham Clark and husband, Carlton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other family members. Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Michael Robbins and the Rev. Johnny Basham will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
