Parker of Alabama; and one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Thomas of Blue Ridge, Va. She is also survived by the following aunts and uncles, Opal Bellville of Huntington, W.Va., Virginia C. and James M. Bright, Betty Jo and Roger D. Carter and James R. Carter of Roanoke, Va., and Grace and William N. Carter of New Iberia, La. She was surrounded by loving and caring friends of Salisbury, Md., Kelly Carey, her kidney donor, and Kelly's parents, Mildred and Don Carey. Also surviving are numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Pat is a graduate of William Fleming High School, Roanoke, Va., Class of 1963. She studied nursing at Lewis-Gale Hospital of Roanoke, graduating with the first nursing class of Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley-Class of 1966. She was a dedicated nurse for thirty-six years, serving her profession at the Lewis-Gale Hospital of Roanoke, Va., the Arlington Memorial Hospital, Arlington, Va., the John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., and the Peninsular Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. A memorial service will be held at the Bounds Funeral Home on July 12, 2002, at 2 p.m., in Salisbury, Md. A memorial service will be held at the Highland Park United Methodist Church on Ferdinand Ave., SW, Roanoke, Va., on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. If you would care to make a donation to the National Kidney Foundation, in memory of Pat, it would help in the advancement of science to find ways to eliminate the pain and suffering of patients who are or have been on dialysis. on July 11, 2002.2

Conner, both of Princeton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory with the Rev. Charles Doyle in charge. Burial will be in the Bennett Cemetery in Athens. The body will remain at the funeral home. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. on July 8, 1964.2

     Geneva Ruth Osborne Geneva Ruth Osborne Nicewonder, a resident of Beckley and formerly of Princeton, West Virginia, died on December 20, 2018 at Harper Mills in Beckley, West Virginia. She was 100 years old. Geneva was born near Boone, NC on August 13, 1918. She was the only child of the late Edgar Reeves Osborne and Lizzie Eller South Osborne. She graduated from Boone High School and the Perry School of Business. After graduation, she was employed by Belk’s Department Store in Boone. Upon her marriage to Eugene E. Nicewonder in 1938, Geneva moved to Bluefield, WV. She and Eugene spent most of their married life in the Bluefield-Princeton area with a few years of residence in Wheelersburg, OH, Buffalo, NY, and Cleveland, OH. After her children were grown, Geneva was employed at Milhuff’s Dept. Store in Wheelersburg and Leggett’s Dept. Store in Princeton. In 2003 she and Eugene moved to Beckley to be near their daughter, Rebecca. In 2009, due to declining health, Geneva moved to Greystone Senior Living Community in Beaver. Geneva was known for her warmth and her sense of humor. She was an avid reader, collector of dolls, bird watcher, seeker of yard sale treasures, protector of animals, and the best grandmother that a child could have. She was a member of Carr Memorial Methodist Church in Glenwood Park, West Virginia. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Eugene, by daughter-in-law, Virginia Blanford Nicewander, by an infant granddaughter, Natalie Ruth Kirkpatrick, and by an infant great-grandson, Jeremy Eugene Nicewander. Survivors include one son, Robert K. Nicewander of Aberdeen, Maryland and three daughters, Anna E. Childers of Seneca, South Carolina, Donna L. Bensey and her husband, Lee, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Rebecca S. Kirkpatrick and her husband, Judge Harry L. Kirkpatrick III, of Beckley; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, if you would care to honor Geneva's love of animals, gifts may be made to The Mercer County Animal Shelter, 961 Shelter Road, Princeton, WV 24740. Geneva spent many happy hours at the Princeton Public Library, 920 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24740, which will use donations made in Geneva's memory to purchase books in her name. She was a former self-employed upholsterer, a 1941 graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield, and member of Alton Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Regina A. Caldwell and her husband, Buddy, and Vickie Evers, all of Lawrenceburg; a son, Hubert Stanley "Stan" Martin and his wife, Sandy, of Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Hollie Bingham, Mallory Martin, Devine Martin, Cody Martin, Amanda Suto, Gene Evers, Jerry Evers Jr. and Dawn Evers, all of Indiana, Darsce Thompson and Vanessa Stratton, both of Kentucky, Matthew Sargent of Michigan, and Monica Moen of Wisconsin; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Berry of Indiana; and three brothers, Richard Nicewonder of Michigan, and Tommy Nicewonder and Dennis Nicewonder, both of Virginia. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Sargent; and two brothers, Edward Nicewonder and Eugene Nicewonder. Burial will follow in Pigeon Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jerry Evers Jr., Gene Evers, Devine Martin, Cody Martin, Shane Stratton and Ronnie Thompson. Honorary pallbearer will be Jewel Toll. on January 9, 2008.2

     Frederick Harrison "Fred" Nicewonder Frederick (Fred) Harrison Nicewonder, 96, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on January 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Hubert Estol and Anna Doyle Nicewonder. Preceding Fred in death were his siblings: brothers, Edward (Lois) Nicewander of Portage, Ind; Dennis (Joanne) Nicewander of Boca Raton, Fla; Richard (Laura) Nicewonder of Redford, Mi; Eugene (Geneva) Nicewonder of Beckley, W.Va; and sisters, Lucille Berry of Portage, Ind; and Wilda (Billie) Martin of Lawrenceburg, Ky. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Elsie Darlene Nicewonder; son, Randy G. Nicewonder and his wife, Rhonda, of Peterstown, W.Va; son, Steven G. Nicewonder and his wife, Suzanne, of Salem, Va; and grandchildren, Bryan Nicewonder of Salem, Va., Avalon (Dee) Nicewonder of Denver, Colo., and Scotty Nicewonder of Richmond, Va. Fred retired in 1987 as Civil Engineer for the Norfolk & Western Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a high school graduate, earned an Associate Degree in Engineering and served in World War II as Sergeant in the 366th Headquarters Squadron 4th Fighter group in the Army of the United States, in support of the U.S. Air Force. Fred was an active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va., serving in the Choir, as Sunday School teacher, and as Chairperson for the Grounds Committee for many years. He loved his family, golf, and country music, along with engaging in lively discussions on many topics. He was a joke teller, a good companion to many, and enjoyed a strong social life alongside his wife for many of their years in Roanoke. He was loved by his family, and cared deeply for his wife, sons, and grandchildren, who brightened up even his last days. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.2 He was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.2 He was born on January 1, 1927 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,2 He married Elsie Darlene Wright circa 1950.6,2 Frederick Harrison "Fred" Nicewonder died on December 26, 2023 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 96.2

McGraw, pastor of the First Church of God, Bluefield. Surviving is the widow, the former Vergie Robertson McPherson; three step children, Ellis W. and Jesse W. McPherson, Bluefield, Princeton road; Mrs. J. C. Waggoner, Summersville, W. Va; four grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. B. D. Lambert of Rocky gap, Va; Mrs. H. E. Nicewander and J. H. Doyle of Bluefield; C. B. and V. T. Doyle of Roanoke; Mrs. Charles Shuford and Miss Clara Doyle of Baltimore. The body will remain at Memorial Funeral Directory chapel until Thursday at 1 o'clock, when it will be removed to the home. on September 18, 1947.4
