He was the son of the late Johnny and Helen Maxey. Jerry was retired from Medeco as a set-up man. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We thank God for the memories and love that will last a lifetime. To the world you might just be one person but to one person you might just be the world. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Mills. He leaves behind his Valentine of 46 years, Sandra M. Maxey; his children, Kim Trobaugh and husband, Scott, of Christiansburg, Scott Maxey and wife, Shannon, of Glenvar, Tracie Sowder and husband, Steve, of Salem, and Janice Caswell, of Shawsville; seven grandchildren, Mallory, Samantha, Logan, Alec, Cayden, Brian and wife, Sheena, and Dana and husband, Chad; five great-grandchildren, Bryan, Kacey, Haylynn, Ashlynn and Tyler; a brother, Wayne Wilson and wife, Elta, of Copperhill; three sisters, Mary Dunn and husband, Andrew, and Torri Mills and husband, Bruce, all of Elliston, and Barbara Jean Irby; a brother-in-law, Irvin Mills; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Big Spring Baptist Church in Elliston with Pastor Kenneth Gray officiating. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Hippensteel and all at Pulmonary Associates for their excellent care in allowing our family to have extended time to love him. As a business owner, he was a longtime mechanic with Rosedale Heavy Equipment. He enjoyed working in the yard, and loved his family very much. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest G. and Ada Dobbins Basham; siblings, Lavene Nichols and Vern Basham; son, Tim Basham; and son-in-law, Donald Maxwell. His surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Mary Basham; children, Sherry Maxwell and Terry Basham and wife, Kathy; siblings, Dorothy Palmer and husband, Bill, and James Basham and wife, Rose; grandchildren, Jennifer Moles and husband, Kourtney, Jonathan Maxwell and wife, Mindy, Josh Maxwell and wife, Christa, Stephanie Alderson and husband, Bill, and Jeremy Basham; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Basham; brother-in-law, Max Reed and wife, Louise, and their family; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Salem VA Medical Center for the love and care they provided. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018, in the funeral home's chapel with the Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Floyd County on February 11, 1903, to the late William Letcher and Pearlie Flinchum Cole. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Lawrence, a granddaughter, Marla Lawrence Ball and three brothers. Surviving are her husband, Roff Arno Lawrence; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean L. and Daniel Tulley, Thousand Palms, Calif; one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin A. and Ramona A. Lawrence, Blacksburg; three sisters, Mamie Poff, Roanoke, Sylvia Owens and Ora Cooper, both of Salem; two brothers, Palma Cole, Roanoke, Aaron Cole, Franklin County; a daughter-in-law, Ann Lawrence, Roanoke; two granddaughters; three grandsons; twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Richard Waller and Mr. Steve Marshall will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home. Friends are invited to visit at the home at 719 Dickerson Lane, after services at Dublin. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home. on May 1, 1993.4

Lawrence, Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Dan Tully, Thousand Palms, California; a daughter-in-law, Ann Lawrence, Roanoke; two sisters, Nannie Unrue, Raleigh, N.C. and Grace Smith, Salem, Va; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 1995, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Mr. Richard Waller and Mr. Bobby Sylvia. He began working at the National Bank of Blacksburg when he was eighteen years old and worked there for 47 years. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 and served his country as a payroll officer near the end of World War II. He was known as a kind, gentle, humble, and compassionate man who from a child, had love for God. He and Ramona opened their home regularly to all for meals, nights, and meetings of worship and praise to God. His and Mom's love for God and for each other has been a wonderful example for the family and all who knew them. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McCoy Funeral Home, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 prior to the service that will begin at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, Blacksburg, Va. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. on June 6, 2019.5
