Rodger Lee Smith Rodger Lee Smith, age 80 of Floyd, Va. passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, with his children by his side. Born on July 5, 1944, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather known for his love of God, his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, and Nascar. He had a passion for refurbishing antique radios, and loved wood working. Graduating from Shawsville High School in 1962, he spent most of his working years as a supervisor at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant where he retired in 1999. He was preceded in death by his spouses, Clara East Smith and Mabel Delaney Smith, his parents, Alfred and Annie Smith, sister, Phyllis Hall, and brother, Jimmy Smith. He is survived by his children; Gene Woolwine (Teresa), Melissa Elliott (Joey), Kim Bailey (Ken). Grandchildren, Amber Piland, Brandon Alderman, Austin Alderman, Brett Elliott, Paul Davis, Haley Hunt, Victoria Hunt, Clara Hunt, Kenny Bailey, Tamara Bailey, Amber Bailey, and Chelsea McGuire as well as 24 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Miller Smith; children: Shannon Denene (Peter) Hannon, Russell Smith, Cassondra “Cassie” Winfrey (Cory), and Stacie Smith; Grandchildren: Madison Grace Smith, Mikinzi Jo Winfrey, Raven Lea Winfrey, and Kahlan Skye Winfrey; brother, Rodger Smith; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Carmell Miller; special pets, Charlee and CC; special friends whom he enjoyed eating breakfast with: Dickie Hall, Jimmy Wimmer, Danny Wimmer, and Danny Yates; as well as a host of other family and friends. Juanita Mae Gooch Juanita Mae Elmore, 79, of Topeka, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at McCrite Plaza. She was born on February 24, 1930 in Chanute, KS, the daughter of Ralph W. and Wanda Mitchell Gooch. She graduated from Highland Park High School. Juanita received a business degree from Washburn University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was employed by the Kansas Highway Commission and the Kansas League of Municipalities. Juanita was a secretary for American States Insurance Company for many years before retiring. She spent her retirement years caring for children at Heights of Learning Day Care in Tecumseh. She was a member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Her activities included singing in the choir and acting as the director of the Junior Choir for several years. Her love of animals was shown through her contributions to various animal welfare charities. Juanita married Roger E. Elmore on August 6, 1954 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Darlene and spouse Bill Lieurance and her brother, Forrest Gooch. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Chris) Blessing, Traci (Brandon) Smith, four grandchildren, Hannah, Dawson, Grace, Tessa and her sister-in-law, Carol Gooch. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church.
