He was a Marine Corps sergeant during World War II, having enlisted at age 17. He fought in the Pacific Theater, trained other Marines in armored tank combat at Camp Pendleton and was among the first Marines to land on Japanese soil in Nagasaki immediately after surrender. He went on to become a Kern County deputy sheriff and later became an independent insurance agent, founding Robert R. Littleton Insurance in Redondo Beach. Mr. Littleton and his wife operated a successful business for over 40 years. Upon retirement, they relocated to Joshua Tree. Mr. Littleton was a community leader, involved in many civic groups. He was a member of the Independent Agents and Brokers Association of the South Bay and served a term as their president. He also served in various roles in the American Legion, including post commander. He was quick with a smile, loved to sing and joke and will be greatly missed by his family and a multitude of friends. Mr. Littleton was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty (Watson) Littleton Anderson and two daughters, Laura (Littleton) Lindeberg and Vicki (Littleton) Cameron. He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Janet (Fisler) Littleton; his daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn and Frank Herbert, Dr. Sally Littleton and Mickey Fivenson and Norman Lindeberg; grandchildren Matthew Lindeberg, Maria (Patrick) Hillary, Jeff Cameron, Angela (Owen) Wackler, Gina DiPonio, Zachary Fivenson and Adam Fivenson; great-grandchildren Ian Cameron, Allison Hillary and Rachel Hillary; sister Shirley Littleton; and his caregiver for the past five years, Ralph Valenzuela. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests that any memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association. on May 2, 2009.4

She was a beloved homemaker, mother and grandmother and a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin A. Huffman; a son, Stephen A. Huffman; five brothers, Roy, Virgil, Clarence, Arnold and Heber Poff; and a sister, Ola Brumfield. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and James Mullins of Ripplemead and Heather and Gregory Smith of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Meghan Mullins, Logan Smith and Jamie Huffman; a sister, Virginia P. Henry of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7 p.m. in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg on Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services from 5 to 7 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to The American Cancer Society.
