In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by her husband, Ercil Poff; twin brother, Luther Walters; and brother, Howard Walters. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Gurdy Manning, Myrtle Underwood, Barbara Conner, Russell Walters, and Gary Walters; and brother-in-law, Vestal Poff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell L. Meeks; and two sisters, Elizabeth Robertson and Maxelle Burke. Born in Floyd, Va., she was the daughter of the late W. Robert Anderson and Aristene Radford. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy C. Conner and J. Galen McAvoy. She attended Kenaday Presbyterian Day School and remembered going with her family in a covered wagon to the Pig River Church. Mrs. McAvoy was a past member of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, and most recently of the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren, Boones Mill, Va. Surviving: sons, William B. Conner of Kennett Square, Penn., and Glenn H. Conner and Roy C. Conner Jr., both of Jacksonville, Fla; sister, Beulah Nichols of Manetta, Va; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Interment was in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. on June 24, 2004.²

     Gertie Mae Walters Gertie Mae Manning, May 8, 1937 - Oct 29, 2025. Gertie Mae Manning, 88 of Roanoke, Virginia passed October 29, 2025, while in the care of Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Gertie worked for Tultex Corporation for 42 years as a seamstress. She was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan, enjoyed canning, crossword puzzles and keeping up with her friends and family. Gertie grew up on Bent Mountain, Virginia. Daughter to Leonard and Cora (Stump) Walters both deceased. She was a sister to Christine Poff (Ercil) (both deceased), Barbara (surviving), married to Kenneth Conner(deceased), Mrytle (surviving), who was married to Jimmie Underwood (deceased), Luther Walters (deceased), Russell Walters (surviving), Gary Walters (deceased), and Howard Walters (deceased). Gertie Walters married Joseph Maynard Manning, November 21st of 1964, her husband of 60 years. They raised Kathy Helms (deceased) and Scott Manning. She is also survived by son-in-law Steve Helms, daughter-in-law Carissa Manning, grandson Steven and wife Taylor Helms, granddaughters, Katelyn Helms, Lexi Manning, and Lindsey Manning, grand daughter-in-law Jessica Mendez Rowe and husband Stephen Rowe, and Reagan Helms great-granddaughter and great-grandson-in-law Silas Mendez Rowe.³ She was born on May 8, 1937 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,3 She married Joseph Maynard Manning, son of William Carey Valentine "Vollie" Manning and Hettie Ann Conner, on November 21, 1964 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,4,3 As of November 21, 1964,her married name was Manning.¹ Gertie Mae Walters died on October 29, 2025 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 88.³

M. Hancock, who died at his home here Friday morning, were conducted today. He survived by his widow, Mrs. Nora Hancock, and two daughters, Mrs. S. E. Mason and Mrs. J. A.
